Parable of

the foolish and the prudent virgins

Mat 25 : 1-13

3 of 38

3

Mat 25:1 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the groom. 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent. 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they did not take extra oil with them; 4 but the prudent ones took oil in flasks with their lamps. 5 Now while the groom was delaying, they all became drowsy and began to sleep. 6 But at midnight there finally was a shout: ‘Behold, the groom! Come out to meet him.’

This parable is about

the kingdom of heaven on earth and end time

4 of 38

4

Mat 25:7 Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps. 8 But the foolish virgins said to the prudent ones, ‘Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.’ 9 However, the prudent ones answered, ‘No, there most certainly would not be enough for us and you too; go instead to the merchants and buy some for yourselves.’ 10 But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the groom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut.

The prudent virgins

greet the coming of the groom

5 of 38

5

Mat 25:11Yet later, the other virgins also came, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open up for us.’ 12 But he answered, ‘Truly I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13 Be on the alert then, because you do not know the day nor the hour.

The door to the kingdom of heaven

is closed

for the foolish virgins

Look at the similarities

7 of 38

7

Mat 25:1 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the groom. 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent.

5 Now while the groom was delaying, they all became drowsy and began to sleep.

The similarities

  1. Both know the groom
  2. Both have lamps
  3. Both become drowsy and begin to sleep

8 of 38

8

Look at the difference

9 of 38

9

Mat 25:3 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they did not take extra oil with them; 4 but the prudent ones took oil in flasks with their lamps.

The difference

The foolish virgins

depend on own strength

The prudent virgins

depend on the oil

10 of 38

10

Flask is made from clay

Man is also made from the earth soil

Oil represents the love of God through the Holy Spirit

The prudent virgins depend on the love of God

within them

11 of 38

11

What happen to

the foolish and prudent virgins ?

12 of 38

12

Mat 25:6 But at midnight there finally was a shout: ‘Behold, the groom! Come out to meet him.’

The coming of the groom

happens at midnight

The second coming of Christ happens during the great tribulation during end time

13 of 38

13

Mat 25:9 However, the prudent ones answered, ‘No, there most certainly would not be enough for us and you too; go instead to the merchants and buy some for yourselves.’ 10 But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the groom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut.

For the prudent virgins

The door to the wedding feast

with the groom is opened

They do not experience

the darkness of the night

14 of 38

14

Mat 25:9 However, the prudent ones answered, ‘No, there most certainly would not be enough for us and you too; go instead to the merchants and buy some for yourselves.’ 10 But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the groom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut.

For the foolish virginsThey try to ”buy” oil from

“the oil merchant”

15 of 38

15

Mat 25:11 Yet later, the other virgins also came, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open up for us.’ 12 But he answered, ‘Truly I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13 Be on the alert then, because you do not know the day nor the hour.

For the foolish virgins

The door to the wedding feast is closed

They will suffer the darkness of the night

16 of 38

16

The foolish virgins,

Have known the groom, but :

  • They depend on own strength
  • They like to buy oil from the oil merchant

They are the religious churches

  • They will still be saved, but they will suffer during the great tribulation at end time, because the door to the kingdom of heaven on earth is closed for them

17 of 38

17

The prudent virgins,

They have known the groom, and :

  • They depend on the love of God
  • They do not depend on the oil merchant
  • They will enter the wedding feast to greet the groom

They are the bride of Christ

  • They will be joyful and protected during the great tribulation at end time, because they are inside the kingdom of heaven on earth

18 of 38

18

Among the 7 churches in Revelation 2 – 3,

The door to the kingdom of heaven

is only opened to the church at Philadelphia

The other 6 churches (Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, and Laodicea)

are outside the kingdom of heaven on earth,

and will suffer during the great tribulation

at end time

19 of 38

19

The bride of Christ will be joyful and protected from the great tribulation during end time

Not because of her own strength,

but because of 1 thing,

the love of Christ

The parable of the talents

Mat 25 : 14 – 30

21 of 38

21

Mat 25:14 “For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them. 15 To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he went on his journey.

25:19 “Now after a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them.

The parable of the talents is also about the kingdom of heaven and end time

22 of 38

22

Mat 25:15 To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he went on his journey. 16 The one who had received the five talents immediately went and did business with them, and earned five more talents. 17 In the same way the one who had received the two talents earned two more.

The ones that receive 5 and 2 talents,

use their talents to earn money

23 of 38

23

Mat 25:18 But he who received the one talent went away and dug a hole in the ground, and hid his master’s money.

The one that receives 1 talent,

does not use his talent

to earn money

24 of 38

24

Mat 25:19 “Now after a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them.

At end time,

God will settle accounts

25 of 38

25

Mat 25:20 The one who had received the five talents came up and brought five more talents, saying, ‘Master, you entrusted five talents to me. See, I have earned five more talents.’

The one that receives 5 talents,

  1. He sees God as a good and loving God
  2. He uses the talent from God to earn money
  3. He is blessed and becomes a blessing

26 of 38

26

Mat 25:21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter the joy of your master.’

God’s words to the one with 5 talents :

  1. Using God’s given talent to earn money is good
  2. He is a good and faithful slave

27 of 38

27

Mat 25:21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter the joy of your master.’

God’s blessings to the one with 5 talents,

  1. He will be in charge of many things
  2. He will receive the joy of the Lord

28 of 38

28

Mat 25:22 “Also the one who had received the two talents came up and said, ‘Master, you entrusted two talents to me. See, I have earned two more talents.’ 23 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter the joy of your master.’

The same thing happens with

the one with 2 talents

29 of 38

29

Mat 25:24 “Now the one who had received the one talent also came up and said, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you did not scatter seed. 25 And I was afraid, so I went away and hid your talent in the ground. See, you still have what is yours.’

The one that receives 1 talent,

  1. He does not use God’s given talent to earn money
  2. He sees God as a hard God who likes to condemn
  3. He thinks that it is man who need to do the work for God, and God only receives the result

30 of 38

30

Mat 25:26 “But his master answered and said to him, ‘You worthless, lazy slave! Did you know that I reap where I did not sow, and gather where I did not scatter seed? 27 Then you ought to have put my money in the bank, and on my arrival I would have received my money back with interest.

God’s words to the one with 1 talent :

  1. He is a worthless and lazy slave
  2. God does not like that servant to waste God’s given talent by not working to earn money

31 of 38

31

Mat 25:28 Therefore: take the talent away from him, and give it to the one who has the ten talents.’ 29 “For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away. 30 And throw the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

This is what God will do to the one that receives 1 talent,

  1. His wealth will be taken away and be given to the good and faithful slave
  2. He will go to hell

32 of 38

32

The good and faithful slaves,

have known God, and :

  • They use God’s given talents to earn money
  • They see God as a good and loving God
  • They are blessed and become blessings to others

33 of 38

33

God bless the good and faithful slaves with :

  • The joy of the Lord
  • An invitation to be in charge of many things

They are the disciples of Christ

  • That God will invite to be in charge of many things to become God’s vessel of blessings to the world

34 of 38

34

The lazy wnd wicked slave,

has known God, but :

He has many doctrines :

  • He does not use God’s given talent to earn money
  • He sees God as a hard and condemning God
  • He thinks that it is man who must do the work of God, God only receives the result

He is a false prophet

  • He will go to hell

35 of 38

35

The disciples of Christ will remain joyful,

and will be in charge of many things,

even during the great tribulation at end time

Because of the love of Christ

36 of 38

36

At end time

Religious churches

(foolish virgins)

The bride of Christ

(prudent virgins)

Will suffer during the great tribulation

Will be joyful in the wedding feast with Christ

Depend on own strength

The bride of Christ depends on

the love of Christ for her life

37 of 38

37

  • He uses the talent from God to earn money
  • He sees God as a good and loving God
  • He is blessed and become a blessing to others
