The Peninsular Block
����» As a part of the Indo – Australian Plate, it has been subjected to various vertical movements and block faulting.��» The Rift valley of the Narmada, the Tapti and the Mahanadi and the Satpura block mountains are some examples of it.��» The Peninsula mostly consists of relict and residual mountains like the Aravali hills, the Nallamala hills, the Javadi hills and the Mahendragiri hills, etc.����
The Thar Desert:�» The Great Indian Desert called as Thar desert is one of the one of the important arid region in the world.��» The whole of the Rajasthan – Sind frontier runs through this region.��» This desert region can be divided into two parts as the great desert and the little desert. ��» Between the great and the little desert lies a zone of absolutely sterile country, consisting of rocky land, cut up by limestone ridges.�
��» The Thar Desert is the world’s seventh largest desert. ��» It forms a significant portion of western India and covers an area of about 200,000 km² to about 238,700 km².��» The Thar desert continues into Pakistan as the Cholistan Desert.��» Most of the Thar Desert is situated in Rajasthan in India, covering about 61 % of its geographical area��» The annual temperatures range from 0º C in the winter to cover 50ºC during the summer. And The annual rainfall is only 100 – 500mm.����
