Components of a Balanced Assessment System

Universal Screeners are used to give a broad view of the overall health of core instruction for all students.

Diagnostic Assessments are used to provide information about how much a student knows about a standard, skill, or specific topic.

Classroom Assessments are used to collect detailed information that educators can use to monitor progress towards learning goals or for grades.

Benchmark / Interim Assessments are used to evaluate students against specific grade level standards and learning goals, so that educators can adapt instructional approaches to meet student learning needs.

Summative Assessments are used to evaluate learning progress and achievement at the conclusion of a specific instructional period.

Highlights

CMS will continue to use MAP Reading Growth and MAP Math Growth as our required Universal Screener in K-8. �Kindergarten → Winter and Spring administrations only; 1st - 8th grade → Fall, Winter, Spring administrations�
NCDPI adopted mCLASS DIBELS as the required K-3 reading diagnostic assessment. This takes the place of the MAP Reading Fluency assessment.�
CMS will continue to use all curriculum embedded assessments and curricular resources and they will be administered via Mastery Connect.�
CMS will use Center Point Assessments (aligned to the EL Education Curriculum) in 3-8 reading. This takes the place of the NC Check-In Reading assessments.�
Mastery Connect will be the required assessment platform for all district assessments. This takes the place of SchoolNet.�

All Classroom, Benchmark, and Summative Assessments, as identified on the BAS will be administered via Mastery Connect.
Assessments will be organized by grade level and content area and pushed out via Curriculum Maps, which automatically populate student trackers.
