Tag team protocol
English Learners need frequent opportunities to practice listening speaking, reading, and writing skills. Tag Team protocol does just that. It offers ELs an opportunity to deepen their learning and encourages thinking at the higher cognitive levels, The Tag Team protocol can be used with any informational text or literature.

ELs read a passage either independently, with a partner, or listen to a passage being read aloud to them
ELs work independently to record key ideas/important facts on a piece of paper or digitally
ELs compare key ideas/important facts selected by each student and highlight those that are similar

ELs discuss key ideas/important facts that are different and decide on their importance. & if they should be kept or not
ELs co-create a summary of the passage, They include the key ideas/important facts agreed upon by both students
ELs create a visual representation of the text independently or with a partner OR draw a sketch ‘symbolizing what the text means to them’ (Harste et al, 1988*)
