Market Beliefs

You don’t trade the market, you trade your beliefs about the market.

-I can make a very large amount of money trading-The market can do anything at any time-The market will do similar things most of the time, pattern recognition and statistics are my tools-Markets trend 20% of the time and mean revert 80%-Adding to positions and going for bigger targets while trailing is a major edge in trend conditions (HTF traders)-Adding to positions and trail stopping is a major edge-Position sizing is the biggest edge-My plan proves success is inevitable if I follow my plan 100%-10 trades = sporadic results -100 trades = smooth results-1000 trades = predicted results

Trading Edge

Markets mean revert most often

  • There are 4 trade outcomes: Big Winner, Little Winner, Big Loser, Little Loser. Remove Big losers and stay in the game.
  • I am world class at implementing my system
  • The only reason that I can take discretionary trades is because I have my systems running at high efficiency

When to avoid

Fed Rate Decision (FOMC, NFP, CPI/PPI) or KNOWN market moving events

If you can’t enter the trade because position sizing is too far, ie it would require more than the 1% risk to trade even one contract (Remember Covid Crash?)

I have other obligations that would not let me focus on trading (travel, meetings, family, sick)

Strong Trend in opposite direction (implement trend trade)

21 of 40

Trade Management

Have precise rules for how to exit your trade once profitable. Example…

ENTER EVERY TRADE INTO MY JOURNAL

Move stop to Break Even +.1R at +1R

Take profit at profit target (via asset)Add to positions when they are moving with momentum and trail stop vs profit target

Very infrequently there will be incredible relative strength where not a single candle goes against you, in this instance trail stop is fine ensuring you know your intraday drawdown levels and do not breach them (this happens 1/40 trades on average)

Those trades are rare, you can luck in to them, but don’t optimize for them

22 of 40

Risk Management

This will be determined by your backtest and the risk parameters of the prop firm.

I want to be in a position that if I had 15 losing trades in a row I can continue on

TAKE EVERY TRADE

Keep your mind sharp, if I ever feel off, step away and backtest

23 of 40

Post Trading Routine

Keep track of mistakes, ideas, insights, new trade ideas and notes on the trading day and do things to separate from the markets. Example…

EOD update tracker, journal, screenshots, notesGo for trail run/hike for 1-2 hoursWrite/read/think for 30-60 minutesWind down and set myself up for a good night sleep, the next trading day begins the evening before

24 of 40

Keep a Dashboard

Keep track of your current trading and how it compares to your backtest. Example…
