  • CIC Health (“CICH”) provides surveillance and diagnostic COVID-19 testing for students and staff.

  • Costs for these tests are covered in one of two ways:
    1. CICH, through its partners, bills participants' insurance
      • Per federal regulation, insurance providers must cover all molecular PCR COVID-19 tests.
    2. CICH bills the Washington State Department of Health (DOH)
      • The DOH fund covers tests for uninsured participants

  • When insurance is billed, public funds can be stretched to serve more people.

  • Parents and/or caregivers sign-in to their Crush the Curve member profile, and/or provide insurance information for their dependents (students)

  • Use the step-by-step guidance in this document to add health insurance information or attest to having no insurance:
      • When registering a new Crush the Curve member profile
      • After registering a new Crush the Curve member profile and prior to CICH ordering a test, in order to be tested

  • See our FAQs on why insurance is collected for school-based testing.

  • All participants will be asked to provide insurance information or attest to having no insurance within Crush the Curve, the CICH patient portal. If insurance information is missing from a student’s profile, the testing administrator will prompt for this before conducting the test. Testing participants will always be provided access to testing, regardless of insurance status.

+ FAQs

16 of 18

Q: Who provides COVID-19 testing for our schools?

A: Our school district participates in the state-sponsored Learn to Return program which provides free, COVID-19 testing for K-12 settings. Schools can choose from a variety of testing vendors to provide rapid tests and/or lab-based PCR tests for students and staff. All Learn to Return testing vendors have been vetted and approved by the Washington State Department of Health.

Q: Who is CICH?

A: CIC Health is the labor support and testing vendor that provides diagnostic COVID-19 testing for our students and staff. Participants provide a sample collected with a shallow nasal swab (with or without support staff) which is then sealed and sent to out for lab-based PCR testing, the most accurate type of COVID-19 test.

FAQs

17 of 18

Q: Why am I being asked for insurance information?

A: COVID-19 testing is free for all participants regardless of their health insurance status, but that doesn’t mean that the laboratories are processing the tests for free.

Costs are covered in one of two ways: they are billed to the participant's insurance, or they are billed to the Washington State Department of Health (DOH). Per federal regulation, insurance providers must cover all molecular PCR COVID-19 tests.

When a participant’s insurance is billed for these tests, public funds can be stretched to serve more people in our community and across the state.

Updated insurance information or attestation of no insurance should be included in a student’s profile before a test can be conducted. Please take a moment to update this information in your child’s Crush the Curve member profile to help keep our testing program operating as smoothly as possible.

FAQs

Q: I do not have internet access/I cannot navigate the online system.

A: Call your school and ask for the COVID-19 testing supervisor or support staff. They will be able to create a member profile for your student and add your insurance IF you have not yet created a member profile. If you have an existing member profile, you will need to work with staff to update your insurance information when a NEW testing order is created (i.e., the next time your student needs a test at school).

Q: I don’t have health insurance currently. What should I do?

A: If you do not have health insurance at this time, you will need to provide attestation of no insurance before a test can be conducted. Please take a moment to update this information in your child’s Crush the Curve member profile to help keep our testing program operating as smoothly as possible.
