Physical Education

Grade 1 Math in Action

As winter weather rolls in, please don't forget that students will need sneakers to be successful in PE class. Boots can be clunky and heavy and do not not provide support for running and jumping.

We focus the cold months on tag, jump rope, dribbling skills and rolling skills.

This is a great time to look at Windsor Recreation Department Programs for the spring.Registration for spring soccer, T-ball, baseball, and softball will also start up.

Math Unit 4: Tens

Students learn about place value as it relates to two-digit numbers. That is, the two digits represent amounts of tens and ones. Additionally, the numbers 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, and 90 refer to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 tens and 0 ones.Students understand ten more and ten less, and add and subtract tens. including mentally finding 10 more than a two-digit number. Students also count, read and write numbers in the 0-120 range.

Activities to try at home:

Bounce a ball, jump up and down, or take giant steps to the count of numbers from 99 to 120. Then choose a different range of numbers to count (within 120), starting at ___ and ending with ___. For example, you may start counting at 36 and end at 60.

Kindergarten

In reading, we’re learning about story elements and how to use them to retell familiar stories. In writing, we’re working on writing our opinions and continuing to work on sounding out words. In math, we’re working on writing, building and making teen numbers. We now know that teen numbers are the numbers 11-19 and have ten and some more. In social studies, we’re wrapping up the unit on our school community. It’s been a blast! Thank you for your support at home. Keep on working on high frequency words and counting!

Change of Clothes

Many times students have spills from food/drink , get wet on the playground and may have an accident even though they are potty trained.

Please be sure your child/children have an extra shirt, pants, underwear, socks, (shoes if you can) & sweater or jacket.

Should they need to use their extra clothes, we’ll send home the wet clothes and ask that you send back another clean set preferably in a labeled ziploc bag. Also the classrooms tend to be cold with the A/C so please pack a sweatshirt

Fever: 100.5F , children should stay home during the course of a fever and may return to school when they have been fever free for 24 hours without any medication to reduce fever.

Reminder: Medications may not be sent in with the students. A parent/ guardian must deliver the medication to the nurse.

All medications need to have an authorization administration form from your doctor .

Healthy Eating Tips for the whole family

  • For snack time, keep fresh fruit and pre-chopped or no-chop veggies on hand. Your family is more likely to grab fruits and vegetables over the other items if they're readily available.
  • Enjoy fish high in omega-3 fatty acids. Oily fish such as salmon, mackerel, trout and albacore tuna are good choices.
  • A small handful of nuts or seeds can be a satisfying and healthy snack. Look for unsalted or lightly salted nuts. Almonds, hazelnuts, peanuts, pecans, pistachios and walnuts are all good choices.
  • Vegetables and fruits are loaded with nutrients and fiber, and typically low in calories and sodium. Fresh, frozen or canned produce can all be healthy choices, but compare food labels and choose wisely. Read more.
  • And don't forget - Parents say family is less stressed when they eat together
