Second Chance Learning
-SCL opportunity amounts do not carry over from one semester to the next (no banking).
-Meet with the teacher to discuss the errors from the initial assessment
-Complete all assigned work required by the teacher before the initial assessment
-Correct all errors on the original assessment
-Determine a date and time with the teacher for the SCL opportunity.
Cell Phone Policy Highlights
-Students are welcome to use their phones, earbuds, and smart watches until the bell rings for the start of class. Once the class begins, all students are to place their phones in their desk pouches and then in the large box or in cell phone caddies provided in classrooms. Cell phones may not be accessed for the remainder of the class.
-There are times when we may use cell phones as a part of a class activity. The expectation is that students will not be using this time to access social media, games, etc.
-When going to the bathroom or anywhere else in the building, the electronic device pouch must remain in the box or caddy and electronic devices must stay in the classroom while you are out.
-Upon finishing classwork and teacher’s discretion, students may be entitled to access your electronic devices during a break (less than 3) minutes of class time.
-If the student is using electronic devices during class, outside of what has been stated above, a verbal warning will be issued first and subsequent violations will follow the consequences outlined in the “Electronic Device Plan” provided to students and families.

Grading and Late Work
Your grade in this course will be weighted using the following categories:
Participation Grades (No more than 10%)
Assessment Grades (A minimum of 90%)
All work must be submitted by the end of the unit with a 20% point deduction unless the assignment has been reviewed and returned to the class. At this point, the teacher has discretion to allow an alternate assignment.
Long term projects and assignments with multiple checkpoints will be accepted until the end of the unit or marking period, whichever comes first, with a 20% deduction when submitted late.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where and how often should I check my grades? |
A: All assignments will be graded, and grades will be recorded in Schoology; however, PowerSchool is still the reporting system, so you should check your grades in both Schoology AND PowerSchool to ensure they are the same in both places. If you see any discrepancies or have any questions, don’t hesitate to email me. |
Q: Will there be group work and/or presentations? |
A: Yes. I believe group work gives students the opportunity to engage in critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration skills while presentations provide a way for students to showcase their work and communicate their learning to one another. Therefore, from time to time, I will offer the opportunity to work in small groups on certain projects and assignments, and occasionally, I will ask you to present your work to the class. |
Q: What do I do if I’m absent or going on a vacation/class trip? |
A: If you’re absent or plan to be absent, I would encourage you to email your teachers just to check in. For this class specifically, you can also check the daily agenda posted in Schoology to see what you missed/will be missing in class. The EHS policy for missed work is as follows:
|
Q: Will there be a lot of homework? |
A: We only have one marking period together and a lot of material to cover, so at times, you will need to complete work outside of class. With that said, I will often give you time in class to work on/complete projects and assignments, so be sure to take advantage of the opportunity when you have it. |
