In 1964 - 1968...

  • Students received a Freshman Handbook
  • Students had curfews: regular closing hours of halls from Sunday to Thursday was 11pm, Fridays at 12 midnight and Saturdays at 1am.
  • Students were allowed “education lates” and “social lates”.
  • They had a grocery store nearby called All-Star Dairy that sold groceries, fruits and baked goods!

In 1964 - 1968...

  • Students had to wear skirts for evening meals and for trips to Holyoke!
  • $400 was a conservative budget to cover expenses for the year, other than board and tuition. ($400 in 1968, has the same buying power as $2800 in 2017.)
  • Fathers Week End (instead of Family & Friends Weekend in 2017): a special weekend for fathers and daughters to attend lectures, plays, water shows, dances and other activities.
  • There were special dinner-dance “mixers” with male colleges (Yale, Amherst, Williams, Harvard, etc).

At Senior Ball Weekend in 1968, there were 2 dances and a screening of a film called, “Judgement at Nuremberg.”

  • Students are expecting to eat our meals at SuperBlanch! A centralized dining hall that is currently under construction.

  • The Village Commons is the go-to place for nearby social gathering
    • It has Tower Theater
    • Iya Sushi and Noodles restaurant
    • Odyssey bookstore where students often purchase their textbooks at the beginning of semesters

  • Students register and take classes in any of the five colleges nearby - University of Massachusetts (Amherst), Amherst College, Hampshire College, and Smith College
  • Free and frequent transportation known as PVTA takes student among the Five College Consortium

  • The entire campus came together to speak about diversity
  • There were several sessions that were catered towards all types of different students MHC has.
  • Highlight of the conference was The keynote speaker Dr. Lamont Hill
