There are many challenges faces the astronauts in the space like the gravity in the space, radiation that destroys the DNA, the distance from Earth so the astronauts can not get backup or help from the Earth, closed environment that causes problems in the breathing, the isolation and confinement.

It is important to solve these problems for the astronauts, in this presentation the solution of the radiation will be showed

  • The radiation is causing many problems for the astronauts like destroying the DNA and that is causing diseases like the cancer and many health problems.
  • The astronauts need to deal with this problem to stay in the space for long durations, like travelling to Mars.
  • Because the astronauts are facing large percentage of radiation.

Effects on the human, animal, and plant

  • 1- the changes in human:
  • appear as losing bone density, decreased muscle mass and weight and many physiological changes in gene and hormone regulation in space. the age get slower in space than earth.
  • 2-the changes in plant:
  • appear in low gravity in water distribution is difficult to manage and light which plant not being able to be farmed, the roots are often starved of oxygen.
  • 3- In animals:
  • appear in changes in brain from neuron structure, Reduce bone density cause of gravity.

Solution

  • The solution is combined from some organisms.
  • These organisms can live in the space and do not be affected by some risks unlike the human.
  • The solution is a space biology superhero, and it can be tried in the reality.

  • 1- tardigrades:
  • Tardigrades can survive extreme conditions by going into a “tun” state, in which their body dries out and their metabolism drops to as little as 0.01 percent of its normal rate. When conditions return to normal, the tardigrade revives itself. A tardigrade can stay in a tun state for decades.During the transfer of the cells of the Tardigrades to the human ,that reduces the damage of x rays with 40%
  • 2-Deinococcus radiodurans:
  • The extraordinarily resistant bacterium Deinococcus radiodurans withstands harsh environmental conditions present in outer space. Deinococcus radiodurans was exposed for 1 year outside the International Space Station within Tanpopo orbital mission to investigate microbial survivaland space travel.
  • 3-Bacillus subtilis:
  • Spores of Bacillus subtilis 168 were exposed to space vacuum or solar UV irradiation with a peak wavelength of 254 mm or both. The effects of these factors on the colony-forming ability of the spores were studied in an experiment aboard the Apollo 16 spacecraft. It was concluded that air dried spores may survive exposure to space vacuum if shielded against solar UV irradiation.

  • 1- live in extreme radiation levels.
  • 2- live in very high & low temperatures.
  • 3- live in very dry places.
  • 4- live in the space without air for decades.
