DESCRIPTION OF TYPES OF TAXES

  • Property tax

Paid by homeowners to the municipality and not to the SARS.

Is calculated according to the value of the property

  • Charges

➢ Fuel

• It is paid for every liter of petrol and diesel sold in South Africa.

• This includes a levy payable to the Road Accident Fund.

• The fuel levies make up more than 30% of the petrol price.

➢ Licenses

Licenses, for which you have to pay fees, are also a form of tax, e.g. Driver's licenses, TV licenses, etc.

  • Health levy (Sugar tax)

Charged on non-alcoholic sweet drinks, excluded pure fruit and vegetable juice, dairy products

without added sugar. Intended to force soft drink manufacturers to use less sugar in an effort to

reduce obesity than reduce due to excessive sugar intake

An unfair business practice includes:
