Ubiquitous learning is Rewindable

Goal: If it is worth teaching, it is worth capturing.

If it is worth learning, it is worth capturing.

Rewindable Learning

Accessible Learning

Cybersmart Curriculum

Smart Learners

Technology enables learners to rewind their learning when teachers support this using a wide variety of digital tools and visibly curate it on the class Learning Site, for example:

  • Digital modelling books
  • Recording lessons
  • Apps like Show Me, Quicktime etc to capture voice

This leads to ubiquitous, time shifting learning.

  • Use their device confidently and in clever ways
  • Follow the Kawa of Care for their device
  • Make smart judgements about the credibility of information and their sources
  • Acknowledge their sources of information
  • Are savvy about how you search for information or media online

Tools to make Learning Rewindable

Online Voice

Recorder

Screencastify

Quicktime

On the Chromebook students best rewind tool is Screencastify.

When Woolf Fisher mention rewindable learning, they are talking about students having access to sound and video.

You can easily use Online Voice Recorder and Quicktime to record your voice explaining an activity, or you could ask students to use Screencastify to record your voice on their device.

Online voice recorder

  • Web browser based - you don’t need to download it, it’s a web page you open. You need to bookmark it.
  • Free
  • You can trim your recordings
  • It detects the silence at the start and end of your recording for when you forget to start or finish!
  • It’s another tool for making your sites and your online work multimodal, engaging, accessible and rewindable.
  • It is easier than screencastify, if by chance you haven’t managed to take that step, as there are no images.
  • This same web browser allows you to convert recordings into other file types as well. It is worth looking at all of it’s features and having a tutu.

Quicktime

Quicktime

Quicktime is a fast processing video or sound recorder that records straight to your computer. You then need to upload the files into a drive folder so that you can share them on your site or slides.

It also has some editing functionality after the clip has been created.

Files save as M4a so need to be converted to mp3.

Quicktime

Once you have recorded your content you can create a movie by adding clips together, trimming and reordering sections of the film.

You can do this with audio, screen and movie recordings.
