A FAMILY OF EIGHT IS SOMETIMES NOT SO GREAT.

Hi my name is Walter and my family is bigger than Harry Potters. Having a big family can be tons of fun, but sometimes I get angry at being the smallest one.
See I am the youngest of eight and the hand me downs is not so great. My shirts are baggy, pants worn, and shoes a little raggy. My style is a scramble spectacle, stitched together with love and collectables.
On the way to school Walter starts to get sad. Hopefully today he’ll make friends that will last.
Walter imagines his new friends as he stares out the window. Maybe they’ll be tall, funny, and full of imagination. Maybe they’ll be short, chunky, and full of dedication. Either way he doesn’t care as long as they are his. They can have bushy hair, pig tails, or a wig.
Walter arrives to class and sits alone at his desk. He looks down at his hand me downs and wishes for the best.
As the kids arrive they pass by, and whisper about how he’s dressed. Walter over hears Sammy state that he looks a utter mess.
Walter hangs his head in shame, with his family of eight to blame, for the lack of friends he has. If he was an only child, his clothes would be worth wild, and maybe kids wouldn’t be so cruel.
At recess Walter plays alone, and watches the children surround him. He panders why the kids are so mean, and no one will come around him.
Then he spots a girl he’s never seen before, as she slowly approaches him.

“Hi, my name is Lilly” she says and extends a hand to Walter. Walter is shocked and surprised, scared to say Hi, afraid the moment would be ruined. However Lilly isn’t phased, grabs his hand right away, eager to make a friend on her first day.
Walter and Lily play and play, laughing and giggling the day away. As the kids around them watch they began to get curious. “Can I play with you?” One asks as Walter’s face gets serious.
“Of Course!” Lilly says and this makes Walter smile. This is the most fun he’s had in a while.
As more and more kids join Walters personality begins to unfold. His imagination is magnificent to behold.
Walter accepts the apologies that began to flood his way. He holds no grudges and states that, “today’s a new day.”
From that day on Walter had friends that would last a life time. All thanks to one girl nice enough to give him a try.
So be nice to your peers because it can brighten their day. One small act of kindness can change a path some way.
