Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School
Welcome to
Mrs. Rodriguez
Pre-K 1 Class
Dear Parents,
I want to first welcome you all to our Pre-K 1 Class! For those that do
not know me, I am Mrs. Rodriguez and I have been an early childhood educator for the past 22 years, my educational background stems from bachelors and master degrees in both early childhood education, sociology and literacy for children from birth to 2nd grade. For the past 12 years I have been part of the OLQM family, and I congratulate you all for joining our wonderful school community.
I understand that we continue to deal with a different kind of school year, however we will continue to have faith that there will be an end to this
pandemic. We will try our best to keep this school year as exciting and fun as possible for the children and make sure they learn everything they need to have continued success in the school years to come. Mrs. Gomez, Mrs. Deluna and I along with the staff at OLQM will work hard to nurture and keep your child safe as they continue to practice social distancing.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Rodriguez

Behavior and Discipline
Our classroom rules include:
Be kind to others.
Raise your hand to speak.
Listen carefully to the teacher and while others are speaking.
Use inside voices.
Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.
(New Rule for this Year) We will not share any materials or belongings with our friends.
(New Rule for this Year) I will keep my mask on.
Always do your best work!
Behavior Incentive (Have You Filled Your Bucket Today?)
*Throughout the day whenever a student shows initiative towards following class rules they will be allowed to add Pom-poms to their buckets. At the end of the week if their buckets are filled, they will receive a small price such as stickers or choose from the prize bag.
If a child is continuously having difficulty following classroom rules a letter will be sent home or I will call the parents to communicate areas which need improvement. We will meet with Mr. Woods to discuss options to get the child back on track with behavior.
Disruptive behaviors that keep others from learning or dangerous behaviors (biting, throwing objects, etc…) require removal of a student from the classroom and will be reported immediately to our Principal, Mr. Woods.
Arrival Information
It is very important that your child arrives to school on time so that his/her transition into school is as smooth as possible each morning.
Coming to school late can be very unsettling for young children, so I please urge you to arrive on time.
Children are to be dropped off through the Church doors at 7:45am unless you are doing early drop-off at 7:00am and all children are to be dropped off at the Lunchroom Door where they will be greeted by Mr. Woods, then their temperature will be taken by a School Aide, and I will be waiting to take all the children up to our classroom.
Breakfast will be served in the classroom once everyone is settled in.
School Attendance
If your child is sick or might be coming down with something, please keep your child at home and make sure to see a doctor. Your child may return to school once we receive a note from your doctor stating it is safe for your child to return.
School Uniform
Please make sure your child is wearing their complete school uniform.
Check the Parent Handbook for uniform requirements.
Children are to wear their gym uniforms only on Thursdays.
This year their will be no dress-down days on Friday’s. On Friday’s children are to wear their full school uniform.
Children are only allowed to dress-down or dress-up for their birthdays or any other special holiday that I inform you of.
Lunch/Snack
Hot Lunch will be served in our classroom.
If you do not want your child to have the school lunch, you may send them their own lunch. Please make sure to label the container with child’s name.
Our class also has a 15-minute afternoon snack and you must provide this for your child every day. Typical snack items are a sandwich, fruits, vegetables, crackers, juice, etc… Please remember to label your child’s name on all snack items, such as snack bags, plastic containers, and juice boxes. Also, please only send one food item along with a drink as we only have 15 minutes to eat and clean up.
All children must bring in a water bottle with their name on it daily. Children will have access to their own water as they please throughout the day.
If your child is allergic to any food or any other type of allergies, please let me know.
Dismissal
Our class will be coming downstairs for dismissal as parents are not allowed in the building. We will be dismissing the children by the main school entrance where the buzzer is. Please wait patiently outside until I bring your child to the door.
If your child is being picked up by someone other than parents or the 3 people stated in your emergency card, I need you to give me the adult’s information, this is for your child’s safety. I will not release a child to an adult I have not met. It doesn’t matter who it is, if I have not met that person your child cannot be released to them. Make sure the 3 people stated in your emergency card bring a photo ID during time of pick up as well.
Also, take note that I will not release a child to a minor.
School Work
Please look in your child’s backpack each day. Check their plastic homework folders for assignments, school memos, calendars, or notes from me.
The children will also obtain a folder labeled for each school quarter in which they will take home after each Parent/Teacher Conference, along with their work from their Portfolios.
Class Blog: olqmnyc.blogspot.com
All classroom news, classroom activities, topics being taught will be posted on our class blog by Monday morning. Daily homework assignments will be posted every afternoon on our class blog also on Google Classroom. It is imperative you check the blog and Google classroom every single day. Once you have entered the school blog, click on the link titled “Mrs. Rodriguez” to view our class blog.
If you have a note for me regarding anything, please put it in your child’s plastic homework folder.
In coming weeks, I will be sending information on how to set up your child’s Google Classroom. Your child will be provided with an email address where they will be able to complete daily assignments. We will also be able to communicate through Google Classroom and you can send me messages regarding your child. I will provide you with further instructions through the blog on how to use Google Classroom.
Birthdays
If you would like us to celebrate your child’s birthday in the classroom, please note that food items or treats must be delivered by dominoes, McDonald’s etc... Cakes or cupcakes delivered by the bakery or if you are sending it in with your child it must be sealed from or boxed by the bakery or store you purchased it from. We cannot allow any food items that were prepared at home.
