What Is Phoenix’s Problem With Heat ?
-Phoenix- The Valley of the sun- is known for its hot climate
-This is caused by its urban structure and lack of vegetation, an effect known as urban heat island
-The problem negatively affects the economy, energy, air quality, health, water usage
-in 2018, there were 182 heat associated deaths
Problem unsolved:
-if left untreated, Phoenix is bound to become hotter due to climate change, population growth, and increase in urban structure.
-there will be significant increase in number of deaths over the year.
-solving phoenix’s heat problem is important because the solution can be applied in future warmer cities due to climate change
How It Is Treated
-Adaptation to the heat: Visiting cooling centers, staying inside during hot times.
Mitigating the Heat: Planting trees, adding shades, Changing building architectural design.
The Satellite Data Involved
-MCDPH and Arizona State University teamed with NASA DEVELOP to develop a system using satellite data to measure the data variability of temperature across phoenix from 2005 to 2014
-The data helped the team deduce the spatial patterns of the heat
-The data can be used to know what places need cooling the most especially in the future.

-Alaska is the hometown of 80% of the active volcanoes in the United States.
-This is hazardous for Alaskans and the 25,000 passengers, who transit over volcanoes in Alaska daily by planes, which threaten them by volcanic eruptions that push ash clouds into the air.
-This threatens the Alaskan aviation system which is one of the most crucial in North America.

- In January 2020, thanks to satellite data, volcanic ash was predicted to be shot at an estimated height, which led to the delay of the flights and avoided the ash risks. The data from the Alaska volcano observatory, which is based upon satellite data, has helped a lot in the noticeable decrement in the affection of volcanos on airlines in the past few years.
-This technology is expected to improve in the following years; the faster the forecasters will receive this new volcanic ash information in the future, the faster they will be able to provide pilots with updated information.

Honeybee Informatics Via Earth Observations - 2018 Summer - The software was motivated by a collaborator desire to take beehive health data that has traditionally been used a spatially and apply it in a spatial format in conjunction with NASA Earth observations in order to determine what correlations exist between the health data and local landscape, environmental, and atmospheric phenomena.

The problem
- all five distinct population segments of Atlantic sturgeon are endangered or threatened, the Delaware River is part of the "New York Bight" and is considered endangered.
-Mortality from shipping traffic strikes, impaired habitat and water quality all threaten current populations.
-While recent Delaware River Basin-specific surveys have indicated some spawning success, additional research is needed for future predictions on species recovery.
- This kind of fish will still be endangered and maybe become extinct
