The next theme:
Sari-Sari Store
Every Filipino neighborhood has one. It's smaller than a neighborhood grocery store and a bodega.
It's a little shop usually from a home's front window. Shampoo by the sachet, candy by the piece, detergent in a single packet. You go for something you need, but you end up lingering for whatever is being talked about that day by the neighborhood.
The sari-sari store was a place for the community's needs and a way for everyone within the neighborhood to get to know each other.
Our magazine's theme will also be reflected at the launch party in East Austin.
Why Joi has built this
Joi Conti trained with editorial photographers in New York and worked with a range of publications. When she came to Austin, a city that welcomed her with open arms, she wanted to bring that same magic here.
What she did not find was a place where Filipino artists could gather and be given the reverence they deserve. So she built one. A grant from the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce launched the first issue in 2023, and TAYO NA has grown every year since, from the first launch to TAYO NA Sa Sabado Nights in September 2024, and now the November 2026 edition.
Last year a grant reviewer told me she could not see how Filipino culture had lived and interwoven within the Austin community.
That is exactly what TAYO NA is for. Posting images online was never enough. Social media is ephemeral. A magazine is solid, held in your hands, a record that says these artists matter. TAYO NA Sa Sari Sari Store is 55,000 square feet of a launch party you can walk into.
What we are building
A sari-sari store, seen through TAYO NA's multi-colored glasses.
A sari-sari store sells a variety of goods. TAYO NA's sari-sari store sells a variety of art, reimagined by Austin's Filipino artists: hung from the ceiling, peeking through windows, cardboard cut-and-paste galore. Think Meow Wolf with a bayanihan backbone.
It comes to life in three ways: an immersive artist and vendor market, a performance stage that feels like a backyard karaoke session among the banana trees of the Philippine provinces, and an immersive art gallery with activities for all ages.
It fills 55,000 square feet at the Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex in East Austin, all indoors and free to the public, during Austin Studio Tour, the citywide art event that draws over 60,000 visitors every November.

Why this matters now
Community is the lifeblood of existence.
A culture bearer's work is not to perform the culture. It is to hold the community together. Now more than ever, we need something that brings us into the same room, so we can see ourselves in each other and feel like one people again.
We build that by growing a community where possibility feels within reach, where people lift each other up. When people feel good, they pass that goodness on. That is how a brighter future starts to feel possible.
In the Filipino community we have a word for this: kapamilya. It means family. If you support us, we support you, the way family does.
COMMUNITY PHOTO
People together: a full room, a shared
meal, artists and guests connecting.
Warmth over spectacle.
A cultural investment, not an ad
An Elevate grant recipient, funded in part by the City of Austin.
TAYO NA is an Elevate grant recipient, funded in part by the City of Austin's cultural investment program. Elevate backs artists creating vibrant, publicly accessible artistic experiences that sustain and strengthen Austin's creative ecosystem, with culturally rich programming for residents, visitors, and tourists. The City has already vetted this work and invested in it.
The grant helps fund the magazine. Your sponsorship funds the live experience: paying the Austin Filipino artists who build and fill the space, and keeping it safe, free, and easy for 2,000 people to walk into. We are raising $20,000 to bring the weekend to life.
For corporate partners: this is a turnkey community-impact story. Because TAYO NA is already backed by City of Austin cultural funding, your sponsorship carries built-in, third-party validation of its cultural value, a real diversity and belonging investment your team can report on, not a claim you have to defend.

2,000+ at our doors
Free and public in the heart of East Austin. We expect about 1,000 guests a day across November 14 and 15.
Inside a 60,000-person tour
We run during Austin Studio Tour, the citywide art event that draws 60,000+ visitors and 500+ artists every November, now produced by Almost Real Things. TAYO NA is a stop on that map.
The magazine + digital
A free, high-end print issue placed citywide, plus the full issue free at AustinFilipino.com with a clickable directory of Filipino artists, makers, and restaurants.
A room built for business
A magazine launch is where people meet, connect, and do business. Your brand is in the room for all of it.

What your brand gets back
Why this is worth it.
A hard-to-reach audience
Direct, credible access to the Filipino and broader Asian American market in Central Texas: young, fast-growing, high-engagement, and notoriously hard for big brands to reach authentically. We are already trusted here. You are not renting a crowd. You are being introduced by a friend.
Content you keep all year
Joi is a professional photographer. We produce campaign-quality images of your brand living inside a beautiful cultural moment, yours to run on your own channels long after the weekend. Most sponsorships end at load-out. This one keeps working.
A moment you can own
Category exclusivity at the top level: be the only brand in your space in the room. Plus an authentic cultural halo you cannot buy off a media plan, tied to a City-funded event with a built-in story your marketing team can ride.
