Be my European friend!

Description

We want involve our 9-10 years old students in an exchange of traditional letters with different topics: ‘This is me’, ‘My school’, ‘My city and my country’, ’My favourite pets and animals’, ‘Likes and dislikes’, ’Let's say goodbye to our European friends!’ to practice their writing and reading skills. Meanwhile all topics can be issued online via web 2.0 tools. We are going to record videos, take photos or PowerPoint presentations to share information with our European friends on Twinspace.

Aims

• Improve students' writing and reading skills and practice their oral skills.

• Encourage students to learn English doing some interesting activities.

• Create new friendships.

• Get information from other countries, learn about

different cultures and compare differences and similarities.

• Improve using new ICT tools.

• Show students how they can apply their knowledge from school in real life.

• Raise students' motivation to learn other foreign languages.

Work process

The project will start in January 2016 and will last until June 2016. At the end of every month we are going to send a packet full of pupils' letters about this topics:

January - topic : This is me.

February - topic: My school.

March – topic: My city and my country

April – topic: My favourite pets and animals.

May – topic: Likes and dislikes.

June - topic: Let's say goodbye to our European friends!

We’ll do other activities – record videos, have video conferences, send photos, play online quizes, make presentations and share materials on Twinspace.

Work process

There are eight schools participating in the project and they are divided into four pairs of schools to exchange letters between each pair.

All schools will upload photos, videos and other materials to share their experiences with the other members so our project will be more diverse and cultural.

Letters and packets

Pupils are going to write letters and put them in a handmade envelope with their pen pals' name. The envelope can be decorated. �Pupils can make a handcraft for their new friends and make something related with the topic.�We can have a mail box in the classroom and they can put their letter inside during the month.�We can send some information or objects to decorate our 'European friends’ corner (a small flag, a map, leaflets…).

Each month we can send to our partner school something for the project corner.

January

Topic : This is me.

Pupils can introduce themselves to their penpals, name things they do everyday, after class activities, clubs,... – about 10 sentences). They can put something personal in the enevelope.� Packets will be sent 27th – 29th January.�You can make a video and post it on Twinspace at the end of January. Pupils can introduce themselves shortly as a group (for example - TOP 10 things they do everyday and they can sing their favourite song about friendship in English or in their own language).�You can also have a video conference on Skype or eTwinning live with your partner.

February

Topic: My school.

Pupils can write about their timetable, subjects, places , rooms,… and they can draw their school.

Packets will be sent 24th – 26th February.

You can record a video and post it on Twinspace.

Pupils can show their school (different places and rooms)

You can also have a video conference about school.

March

Topic: My city and my country.

Pupils can write their European friends about their city and their country, monuments, buildings (practising there is, there are,...), Easter customs, typical food and traditions....

You can upload on Twinspace videos, photos or presentations about your city, country, traditions,...

Packets will be sent 23rd–26th March.

April

Topic : My favourite pets and animals.

Pupils can write to their European friends about their pets (if they got it) and favourite animals, wildlife in their countries, endangered animals ...�

Packets will be sent 27th–29th April.

�You can create a padlet about our pupils' pets. They can upload a photo or a video, write a short text, ... �You can have a video conference about animals and pets.

May

Topic: Likes and dislikes.

Pupils can write about things and activities they like or don’t like and their favourite activities.

They can write about what they are going to do during summer and say goodbye and thanks to their new friends.��Packets will be sent 27th–31st May.��

June

Topic: Let’s say goodbye to our European friends!

You can record a video to say goodbye to our friends, make a photo diary or a summary.�

You can create a padlet to write a farewell and post drawings.

Pupils can create a final logo for the project.

You can make an online qiuz and do the questionnaire�to evaluate the project.����
