Jesus Christ can comfort us and give us hope
Jesus Christ can comfort us and give us hope
SCRIPTURE
1 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
2 Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD’s hand double for all her sins.
29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
- Isaiah 40:1-2, 29-31
Jesus Christ can comfort us and give us hope
Jeffrey R. Holland
Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
Because the Restoration reaffirmed the foundational truth that God does work in this world, we can hope, we should hope, even when facing the most insurmountable odds… We all need to believe that what we desire in righteousness can someday, someway, somehow yet be ours…
May we press forward with love in our hearts, walking in the “brightness of hope” that lights the path of holy anticipation we have been on now for 200 years. I testify that the future is going to be as miracle-filled and bountifully blessed as the past has been. We have every reason to hope for blessings even greater than those we have already received because this is the work of Almighty God, this is the Church of continuing revelation, this is the gospel of Christ’s unlimited grace and benevolence.
- Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, “A Perfect Brightness of Hope,”General Conference, April 2020
Peace in Christ(2018 Mutual Theme Song)
MUSIC
1. There is peace in Christ
When we learn of Him.
Feel the love He felt for us
When He bore our sins.
Listen to His words.
Let them come alive.
If we know Him as He is,
There is peace in Christ.
2. There is peace in Christ
When we walk with Him
Through the streets of Galilee
To Jerusalem.
Mend the broken hearts.
Dry the tear-filled eyes.
When we live the way He lived,
There is peace in Christ.
Chorus:
He gives us hope
When hope is gone.
He gives us strength
When we can’t go on.
He gives us shelter
In the storms of life.
When there’s no peace on earth,
There is peace in Christ.

Jesus Christ can comfort us and give us hope
God’s power is greater than worldly power
God’s power is greater than worldly power
SCRIPTURE
4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
5 And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
10 Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
15 Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.
- Isaiah 40:4-5, 10, 15
God’s power is greater than worldly power
Lloyd D. Newell
Professor of Religion at BYU, Announcer for “Music and the Spoken Word”
“God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power.” This “spirit of power” is not the world’s sort of power… The Lord’s way is deeper, higher, and holier…Where worldly power is for the privileged few, the Lord’s power is available to all. It is manifest in the ordinances of the priesthood. We access it through making and keeping sacred covenants. We nurture it through sincere prayer, fasting, and feasting “upon the words of Christ…”
If you are fearful because you feel powerless, I invite you to turn to the Lord. Draw upon the power of the covenants you have made and are keeping. Trust in God’s power, for it is mightier than any power on earth.
- Brother Lloyd D. Newell, “Fear Not,”BYU Devotional, December 2014
Tell Me the Stories of Jesus(Children's Songbook #57)
MUSIC
1. Tell me the stories of Jesus I love to hear,
Things I would ask him to tell me if he were here.
Scenes by the wayside, tales of the sea,
Stories of Jesus, tell them to me.
2. Oh, let me hear how the children stood round his knee.
I shall imagine his blessings resting on me;
Words full of kindness, deeds full of grace,
All in the love-light of Jesus’ face.
3. Tell me, in accents of wonder, how rolled the sea,
Tossing the boat in a tempest on Galilee!
And how the Master, ready and kind,
Chided the billows and hushed the wind.
Words: W. H. Parker, 1845–1929
Music: Frederic A. Challinor, 1866–1952

God’s power is greater than worldly power
The Lord is with me in my trials
The Lord is with me in my trials
SCRIPTURE
10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
11 Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish.
12 Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.
13 For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.
- Isaiah 41:10-13
The Lord is with me in my trials
Bradley R. Wilcox
Counselor in the Young Men General Presidency
Most important, remember that God and Christ are willing to help us right here and now. Some mistakenly receive the message that God is waiting to help until after we repent. God’s message is that He will help us as we repent. His grace is available to us “no matter where we are in the path of obedience…
So many have been hurt by broken and strained relationships that it is difficult for them to believe in God’s compassion and long-suffering. They struggle to see God as He is—a loving Father who meets us in our need and knows how to “give good things to them that ask him.” His grace is not just a prize for the worthy. It is the “divine assistance” He gives that helps us become worthy. It is not just a reward for the righteous. It is the “endowment of strength” He gives that helps us become righteous. We are not just walking toward God and Christ. We are walking with Them.
- Elder Bradley R. Wilcox, “Worthiness Is Not Flawlessness,”General Conference, October 2021

What Are Our Responsibilities in the Work of Salvation and Exaltation?
What Are Our Responsibilities in the Work of Salvation and Exaltation?
SCRIPTURE
1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.
4 He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.
6 I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
7 To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.
- Isaiah 42:1, 4, 6-7
What Are Our Responsibilities in the Work of Salvation and Exaltation?
Gary E. Stevenson
Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
As we come unto Christ and help others do the same, we participate in God’s work of salvation and exaltation, which focuses on divinely appointed responsibilities. These divine responsibilities align themselves with priesthood keys restored by Moses, Elias, and Elijah, as recorded in the 110th section of the Doctrine and Covenants, and the second great commandment given to us by Jesus Christ to love our neighbor as ourselves…
May we keep the gospel simple as we take upon us our divinely appointed responsibilities: To live the gospel of Jesus Christ so as to be sensitive to promptings…To care for those in need…To invite all to receive the gospel…Finally, to unite families for eternity, through…temple ordinances, family history efforts, and service in the temple. Doing so will surely bring joy and peace.

I Want to Be a Missionary Now(Children’s Songbook #168)
MUSIC
1. I want to be a missionary now.
I don’t want to wait until I’m grown.
I want to share the gospel while I’m young,
For I have a testimony of my own.
2. I want to tell my friends about our church
And the happiness it brings to me.
I’ll tell them how the gospel was restored,
Tell them how the Book of Mormon came to be.
3. Then I can be a missionary now.
I don’t have to wait until I’m grown.
I’ll live each day the best that I know how,
And they’ll see I have a testimony of my own,
A testimony of my very own.

What Are Our Responsibilities in the Work of Salvation and Exaltation?
I can be a witness of the Lord
I can be a witness of the Lord
SCRIPTURE
9 Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and shew us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say, It is truth.
10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
12 I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God.
- Isaiah 43:9-10,12
I can be a witness of the Lord
Margaret D. Nadauld
Former Young Women General President
[I]n standing as a witness at all times, we promise to love the Lord, to honor Him all the time…love the Lord and let that love show by the way we live…
Standing as a witness in all things means being kind in all things, being the first to say hello, being the first to smile, being the first to make the stranger feel a part of things, being helpful, thinking of others’ feelings, being inclusive…
When we think of the magnificence of [Christ’s] gift to us, what small thing could we do for Him and for our Heavenly Father who sent Him? We could stand as witnesses of Their love and teachings at all times, in all things, and in all places.
- Sister Margaret D. Nadauld, “Stand as a Witness,”General Conference, April 2000
I Will Be What I Believe(Music for Children)
MUSIC
1. Living in this world
with change all around
But with the prophets' words,
I'll stand on solid ground
Even though it's still hard,
with questions that arise
Every day, I will say
2. We'll spread the gospel wide
throughout all the earth
With Jesus as our guide
we'll wield the sword of truth
Even though it's still hard,
with questions that arise
Every day, I will say
We are as the army of Helaman
We have been taught in our youth
And we will be the Lord's missionaries to
bring the world his truth

Chorus:
I'll have faith like brother Joseph
and the strength of the pioneers
I'll be brave as a stripling warrior
and like Nephi persevere
I will spread God's love to all I know and serve
I will plead with my Father on my knees
I will be what I believe
I can be a witness of the Lord

Keeping God’s commandments brings peace
Keeping God’s commandments brings peace
SCRIPTURE
17 Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.
18 O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:
22 There is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked.
- Isaiah 48:17-18, 22
Keeping God’s commandments brings peace
Thomas S. Monson
President of the Church
2008 - 2018
God’s commandments are not given to frustrate us or to become obstacles to our happiness. Just the opposite is true. He who created us and who loves us perfectly knows just how we need to live our lives in order to obtain the greatest happiness possible. He has provided us with guidelines which, if we follow them, will see us safely through this often treacherous mortal journey…
But while He gives us laws and commandments, He also allows us to choose whether to accept them or to reject them. Our decisions in this regard will determine our destiny…
May we realize that our greatest happiness in this life will come as we follow God’s commandments and obey His laws!... Such peace, such assurance can come only through righteousness.
- President Thomas S. Monson, “Keep the Commandments,”General Conference, October 2015
Keep the Commandments(Children’s Songbook #146)
MUSIC
1. Keep the commandments; keep the commandments!
In this there is safety; in this there is peace.
He will send blessings;
He will send blessings.
Words of a prophet:
Keep the commandments.
In this there is safety and peace.
2. We are His children; we are His children,
and we must be tested to show we are true.
Hold to His promises;
Hold to His promises,
Heeding the prophets:
Keep the commandments.
In this there is safety and peace.
