One building

Figure 11 has presented the velocity measurements behind the building (at 0.2H) for Case 1 as a contour plot. The three velocity components show the shape of the wake at the leeward side of the building. At the streamwise component, there is a recirculation area caused by the blockage of the building. On the vertical component, the flow tends to move from sides to the centre making an inflow at the back of the building at higher heights, while the flow is influenced by the ground effect at the lower heights and the inflow is not noticeable. At the vertical component, there is a downward flow at the top of the building (known as downwash) and interestingly, an upward flow can be seen near the ground which is in line with Carpentieri et al.’s (2009) results about vertical flow movement behind high raised buildings.
