Monarchy (mŏn-ər-kē)
government having a hereditary single person as leader for life and powers that vary from largely symbolic to absolute sovereignty
Oligarchy (ŏl-ĭ-gär′kē)
government in which power is held by a small group of people based on characteristics such as nobility, wealth, education, corporate, religious, political, or military control.
Republic (rĭ-pŭb-lĭk)
government in which the supreme power lies in a body of citizens who are entitled to vote for representatives responsible to them and governing according to law.
Democracy (dĭ-mŏk-rə-sē)
a: government by the people, especially rule of the majority. b: government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly
Theocracy (thē-ŏk′rə-sē)
government in which God is the supreme ruler, laws of the kingdom/country are taken from holy scripture, and church leaders are also government officials
