Before the event…

For a learning event to be successful, the following 7 questions must be well answered:

1. Who are the learners and what do you know about them that shapes the learning?

Who are the teachers and what are their

  • Design you modules using the LtL 5Cs in the Module Design Guide.

  • Make sure to follow your plans as much as possible.
  • Be ready to be flexible where necessary.

C1: Connection

A bridge connecting learners, the teacher, and the subject via felt needs, motivations, and prior knowledge. Connection answers the question, “Why do I need to learn this?”

C2: Content

A task that involves interacting with new knowledge, skills or attitudes that are presented via charts, lists, stories, readings, lectures, audiovisuals, etc. Content answers the question, “What do I need to know?”

A task that offers learners immediate opportunities to explore the content and apply it or try it out. Challenge answers the question, “How does this work?”

A task inviting learners to integrate the content into their lives, so that behavior is changed. Change answers the question, “What can this become?”

  • Go through the course evaluations.
  • Write and submit your report.

  • Gives learners the courage to teach.
  • Give facilitators the possibility to pair up with participants.
  • Relieves and refreshes the main trainer.
  • Is an opportunity to mentor future trainers.

  • Do not try to teach people what you don’t

know at least to some degree.

  • Invite colleagues and experts to help out.
  • Begins your preparations well ahead of time.

Logistics:

  • Make sure that the before the event questions who, why, what, when, where how much and how (lessons) are well answered.
  • Make sure to involve others who will help you! – working as a team is the best way out.
  • Don’t try to do everything by yourself.

Engage your learners:

Provide learners with appropriate learning tasks to work on in a given time frame.

Presentations:

  • Make sure slides are visible enough.
  • Check your screen resolution.
  • Test your equipment ahead of time e.g. speakers, projectors etc.
  • Check your Zoom connections!!!

What are somethings to consider when planning a workshop online?

  • Consider different time zones
  • Share information on the calendar
  • Think about Internet bundles
