What is involved in an internship?

  • Finds an appropriate paid teaching position with a public school & public school district as the teacher of record.
  • Must be within the six county geographic areas we serve.
  • May use internship for clinical practice during program.
  • Must have school/district assigned mentor.
  • Teaching position must be appropriate for completion of the Teacher Performance Assessments (TPAs).
  • Must be a current or former CSUS teacher candidate.
  • Advising is necessary prior to becoming an intern.
  • Stan State may support interns for a maximum of 2 years!

All interns are required to read and be familiar with the Intern Handbook and are held to the expectations indicated therein.

Initial Advising Needed

Seek intern advising with Intern Coordinator, Dr. McFarland

    • Provide your availability for 30-minute Zoom call
    • Have Stan State ID#
    • Check your course history
    • Discuss the teaching position
    • Take notes & ask questions
    • Discuss your options

Initial Paperwork & Procedures

  1. Receive Intern Letter of Eligibility from Intern Coordinator
    1. All University parties will be copied on email
    2. Candidate to include their HR representative
  2. Send signed current teaching contract to Ash Bratton (abratton3@csustan.edu) & Field Services (fieldservices@csustan.edu)
    • Grades & content teaching, district, school site, & internship start date must be indicated
  3. Receive MOU & Intern application paperwork from Credentials Services
  4. Complete MOU with HR rep & Intern application
  5. Send MOU & Intern application back to Credentials Services
    • Include completed certificate of completion for comprehensive CPR class; see CPR flyer
    • Credential Services has 20 days to process your paperwork.
    • The CTC will email you for more information & for you to pay for the credential. *You are officially an intern when the CTC emails you with your recommendation.

Intern Support Seminars & Courses

  • For MSCP/ESCP doing clinical practice:
    • EDUC 6538
  • For SSCP doing clinical practice:
    • EDUC 6548 (Fall) or EDUC 6797 (Spring)
  • For ESCP finished with program needing TPAs only:
    • EDSE 4700 & EDSE 4710
  • For MSCP & SSCP finished with program needing TPAs:
    • EDUC 6790 and/or EDUC 6791
  • Continuing & Professional Education

Intern Course Expectations

  • Attendance & participation mandatory
  • Course assignments completed on time
  • Intern Professional Development Plan
  • Intern Record of Clinical Hours
    • 144 hours: general support and/or supervision (*minimum 36 hours per semester)
    • 45 hours: English learner support and/or professional development (*minimum 11.25 hours per semester)
    • Complete & submit every semester of internship
