Band Student Schedules

Everyone signs up for 7 classes (except for band students).

The options for students enrolled in band look different than those who are not.

Quick notes

  • The term “band class” appears on the following slides. There are numerous potential band classes for freshmen. Most will take either Concert Band or Percussion Techniques. Information about the others is available in a different presentation and the DHS course book.

  • Electives are listed as “full year” or “one semester.” These are also referred to as 1.0 and .5 electives.

What to do with all of those electives?

  • DHS has rich elective course offerings and choosing can be difficult.
  • Highly motivated music students may take a second (or even a third music offering).
  • Students are encouraged to take a world language for college prospects (but do not need this to graduate due to their participation in the arts).
  • Musicians who aspire to play in multiple upper level groups are encouraged to use electives to meet graduation requirements when they are younger. This allows greater scheduling flexibility during junior and senior years.
  • Students who wish to maximize their electives are encouraged to create a four plan in order to fit everything in.
