Wildfires

  • Wildfires across the world cause many loss of life and property.According to National Interagency Fire Center in 2021 approximately there were 46 thousand fires and 6 million hectares area were burned. These numbers are significantly higher and immediate measures should be taken.

  • Climate change and anormal temperatures are one of the main factors that increase wildfire threats. The relationship between climate change and temperature has been discussed in research with wildfires.

This video shows the change in annual surface temperature.

  • Wildfire threats depend on a number of factors, including increasing temperatures, irregular weather movements , drought, and the presence of trees, shrubs, and other potential fuel. All these factors have strong direct or indirect ties with climate variability and climate change.

Fires are also increasing in direct proportion to the annual temperature increase, according to NASA's GISS data.

When we examined the first graph, the annual temperature increased steadily from the 1880s.After the 1980s, the line began to rise even faster..When we examine the second chart, we can see that after 1980, the areas burned in fires increased. The similarity between these two charts is not a coincidence. This actually gives us the effect of climate change on the annual average temperature increase.

  • At this map we can see that in the next 60 years temperature will rise about 4or 5 degrees. This is so bad and it has even worse effects on us.Higher temperatures mean that heat waves are likely to happen more often and last longer, too.Heat waves can be dangerous, causing illnesses such as heat cramps and heat stroke, or even death .
