Course Selection Timeline

  • Course registration presentation:
  • Open House Jan 29th
  • Elective Preview Academies - sign up through Teachmore
  • Course requests due by February 2nd. Please input your classes on the Aeries portal as well as completing your paper copy.
    • You must log into your Aeries account and submit your desired classes and alternates.
    • Counselors will collect registration forms in person in the library. A specific date and time for you has been added to your form. Please bring your filled out forms to school on these dates.
    • Counselors will be out in front of the counseling at lunch from the Jan. 28th - 31st to assist with any questions.

Transcript Review

  • Check out the Credit Summary section in the bottom right corner.
  • Review your grades/credits by semester.
    • If there is a D or F grade from first semester and that course is needed for graduation, you’ll need to sign up for summer school. More information will be available in mid-February.

Junior Year Classes

Required:

  • English 3 or AP option
  • US History or AP option
  • Math - your current math teacher’s recommendation will be preloaded for you.

Electives:

  • Science - students are encouraged to take Physics. Some colleges require 3 years of science.
  • World Language - not required for graduation, but colleges require up to level 2 of the same language and many colleges recommend at least level 3.
  • Choose a VPA class if you haven’t taken one yet.
  • Check your PE credits!
  • Optional 7th class - you can choose an off campus 1st or 7th period.

Math

  • Your math class will be preloaded for you based on your current math class and 1st semester grades.
  • If you have any questions about your placement please connect with your current math teacher.
  • If you do not agree with your placement or would like to override the math recommendation, information will be given in the spring on the math override process.

Athletic PE

  • If you plan on playing a sport for Las Lomas and still need PE credits Junior year is the last year you can get PE credits through Athletic PE
  • This is not a class you take, but credits you can earn through participation in a LL sport.
  • You must make the team and have a signed Athletic PE contract form turned in by the deadline.
  • You will turn in weekly timesheets.
  • After the end of the season if you complete the required hours on your timesheets you will be issues 5 PE credits (one semester).
  • 10 credits total of Athletic PE are Allowed.

Timeline for Sophomores

Spring of Sophomore Year

  • Choose courses wisely for Junior year.
  • Start visiting colleges and college fairs in the area – there are many online campus tours/fairs to explore.
  • Check out your Maia account – lots of information here.
  • Plan something fun and interesting for summer: volunteer, job, research project, travel, etc. (Check out College and Career 101 resource page)

Consider...

  • demands on your time when selecting courses
  • 7 vs 6 classes - how many AP/Honors to take, etc.
  • how your junior year classes will lead into senior year classes
  • how your courses align with your interests and future goals

Create a balance over the next two years.

  • consider your health and well being, SAT/ACT testing, college applications, etc.

You should have 90 credits completed so far.

Staff Assistant & Peer Tutor

Staff Assistant provides students the opportunity to develop communication skills, employability skills, and behaviors essential for employment, with emphasis on careers in education. Students must have the ability to work with others and independently. Staff assistants work under the direction and supervision of the assigned classroom teacher.

Peer tutors work in classes supporting students with the classroom subject matter.. Peer tutors should have a strong foundation in the subject matter and should be genuinely interested in helping others to become successful students.

  • Should I take 6 or 7 classes?
  • What is an AP class?
    • AP stands for Advanced Placement and is a college level course.
  • What is the difference between an AP and Honors class?
    • AP classes have a standardized test in May that can earn college credit.
  • Is it better to have more APs or a better GPA?
    • It is best to choose classes based upon your interests.
  • What if I take a summer course?
    • Summer courses for enrichment, outside of AUHSD summer school, will not be placed on your transcript.
  • If I change my mind after I submit my requests, can I still change my classes?
    • The system will close after the Feb. 4th deadline and you will not be able to change your requests.
  • When and where is summer school?
    • TBD
