Caroline’s storyboard for question protocol

13

Get a list of all the data items – for example, from the database and existing forms

For example:Gather existing forms

Read the policy / legislation

Find out exactly who within your organisation uses each data item

Watch people work, be their ‘apprentice’ to get their hints and tips that let them do the work (don’t do this in a meeting)

Establish the data gap

Find out if you already hold that information/answer within the organisation

For example:look at databases and data models

Kill, postpone, explain, keep

Reduce the list to the things that you absolutely need right at the start of the process to fill the data gap

Prune and tune your list

Find out whether users can provide answers to fill the data gap

For example:watch users fill in the forms,

discuss topics in the form with people who fill in the forms or help other people to do so

For every answer you explain or keep: if the user provides the wrong answer or no answer, what happens?

For example:Find out the error routes

Write your error messages (‘invalid input’ is not acceptable)
