Requesting Access to Peoplesoft (SA)

All instructors will need access to Peoplesoft (SA) in order to view class rosters and grade rosters.

Please note that while Blackboard is UMBC’s Learning Management System, SA is where you will submit your final grades. Those who do not have access to SA should submit a request for the “Instructor” access role using the SA Access Form on the Registrar’s Office website.

Helpful Guidelines

The Enrollment Management website features many helpful guidelines for using SA. These guides can be viewed under SA Training Resources (as seen on the right).

The “Teach a Class” section will take you to all resources mentioned in this presentation.

The “Advise a Student” section should be reviewed by anyone who will also be serving as an academic advisor.

Class Rosters

If you are listed as the instructor for a class, you can view the roster for your class via myUMBC > Guide > Class & Grades > Teaching Schedule.

Your class roster will include students who have enrolled in your class, students who have enrolled but then dropped the class, and students who are wait-listed for your class (if your class has a waitlist.)

The class roster in SA automatically populates the Blackboard roster prior to the beginning of the term and through the end of the registration period.

Class Rosters

Keep in mind that your grade roster is generated based on the students that are listed as enrolled on your SA class roster. For this reason, it is important to ensure your class roster in SA is accurate and complete as early in the term as possible.

For additional information on viewing your Class Roster, please visit the UMBC wiki

Waitlists

Your department will have determined whether your class has a waitlist when they scheduled your class section. Students on waitlists are automatically enrolled in the class if space becomes available unless a conflict exists (such as the student has enrolled in another class that meets at the same time).

For additional information on managing your waitlist, please visit the UMBC wiki.

Class Permissions

In some cases, students need permission to enroll in a class because department consent is required, the class is closed but the instructor is willing to allow additional enrollment, or the department has decided to override a prerequisite requirement.

Instructors should consult with their departments on policy and practice before granting permissions.

For additional information on granting class permissions, please visit the UMBC wiki.
