Creating Templates

Version 8.6 and before

  • Open up a project that you would like to create a template from.
  • Click the export template button.
  • Click the link to view the xml file.
  • Click the edit properties button.
  • Change the document name to the exact value of the project type/custom field of the opportunity/custom object you would like the template to be used for.
  • Change the folder where xml file is located in to a public folder (ex: Milestone PM Folder).
  • Click the save button.

Version 8.7 and later

  • Open up a project that you would like to create a template from.
  • Click the export template button.
  • Populate the desired project template name. The name must include ‘.xml’ at the end of the name. (EX: ‘TestTemplateName.xml’)
  • Select the desired folder the project template should be saved in.
  • Click the Create Project Template button.

Please Note:

Project templates will only work if the

Document Name has the same value

as a valid project type / custom field found on the

opportunity/custom object.

There may only be one template

per project type. (Multiple templates

with the same name will cause

unwanted results)

  • Click the Import Template Tab.
  • Choose an XML Template file that you previously downloaded.
  • Click Import.
  • Update the Project, Milestones, and Tasks accordingly.
  • Repeat steps 2-7 from ‘Creating Templates’ (Slide 2).

  • Click the ‘+’ tab (classic), or open the App Launcher (Lightning).
  • Click the Import Template Tab.

Prerequisite:

You must download an existing template / document (XML Template) file to your hard drive before following these steps.

3. Choose an XML Template file that you previously downloaded.

5. Update the Project, Milestones, and Tasks accordingly.

6. Repeat steps 2-7 from ‘Creating Templates’ (Slide 2), beginning with the ‘Export Template’ button.

Editing A Template

Summary of All Steps

  • Click the ‘+’ tab.
  • Click the Import Template Tab.
  • Choose an XML Template file that you previously downloaded.
  • Click Import.
  • Update the Project, Milestones, and Tasks accordingly.
  • Click the export template button.
  • Click the link to view the xml file.
  • Click view file to download the file to your hard drive.
  • Click the ‘+’ tab.
  • Click ‘Documents’ tab.
  • Select Public Template Folder (Ex: Milestones PM Folder) and click ‘Go’.
  • Click the name of the Template that you would like to edit.
  • Click ‘Replace Document’ button.
  • Select the file downloaded in step 8.
  • Click the save button.
