For Enhanced Transparency, notes from Fin Aid & IT meeting

FINANCIAL AID

-Ankita shares lack of timely response for students and lack of important funding support

-Jose Aguilar (Fin Aid) shared FAFSA Simplification Act: challenges from students. A big change to the Financial Aid world. He asks students to be patient with them. They are severely short staffed. There are vacancies. Good news, filling most of all those new jobs. Bad news: Challenges with new financial system, implemented in July 2023 and that changed the way they do scholarships

-Ankita requested more timely response with student concerns and more info on funding distribution/scholarship distribution for students.

-Jose Aguilar: Customer Service will be better

-He also shared that they lost their Peer Advisor Students - so they plan to hire undergrad students, student assistants, train them how to respond to questions, ready to hire 7 positions (work study), plan to expand more of those roles

-Ankita requested: Financial Aid Event - Questions and Answers like a office hours for all students (ASUCR can host, Fin Aid will connect with their team and let us know). Also requested a workshop - like a FAFSA and CDA application and workshop.

-Director Aguilar and Ankita chatted on any Financial Aid committees. Ankita requests ASUCR and UCR students to sit on the committee.

-Director Aguilar shared that he will share more info soon after connecting with his team.

-ASUCR Finance, External, and President Offices should work on an event and collab once we get more info. This could be really helpful for our community.
