The Honeycrisp Apple is Minnesota’s Official State Fruit!

The Honeycrisp apple variety, developed at the University of Minnesota, was suggested as our state fruit by a class of students from Andersen Elementary School in Bayport, MN. It was signed into law by Governor Tim Pawlenty in 2006 and Minnesota became the 21st state to adopt a state fruit.

  • The average American eats 120 apples each year.
  • Apples can be many colors - including shades of yellow, green and red.
  • Apples are a good course of vitamin C that helps develop a strong immune system.
  • Apples are also a great source of fiber - especially the skin!
