Skillbuilder: Google Forms

Students who master this Google Tool will

  • KNOW how to create, publish and collect data using Google Forms
  • UNDERSTAND the power and ease of using Google Forms, and begin to understand the potential uses of Google Forms in the classroom and beyond
  • DO: Create a Google Form and organize the gathered information for your analysis

Google Forms can be used to quickly gather data through the creation of a form or survey that can be shared through email, social media or through embedding into a site or blog. After individuals submits the form, responses are sent to a Response Spreadsheet where the data can be viewed and manipulated, an automatic summary of responses with charts, graphs, and statistics is also generated and displayed in an easy-to-read format. With a variety of question types, almost any information can be gathered and organized in a few minutes.

Google Forms

Google Forms display quite nicely on most mobile devices. You can use this to quickly collect information from individuals who have access to a mobile device. Create a shortened URL of your Live form and share it to have your audience quickly fill out a form. You can also create a Google Doc or a Google Sites page where you place the web address of your live forms. This way your audience can bookmark this page on their mobile device. Everytime you need for them to fill out a form, they can quickly navigate to ONE web address where they will find the latest Form to fill out. (this method provides a Google Tools alternative to clickers for formative assessment)

Using Google Slides to meet Digital Age Standards

Explore the slides below featuring examples of how Google SLIDES can be used as a tool to design instruction that aligns to current standards for teaching and learning in a digital age. Consider standards relevant to your role/content area for teaching and learning. Pick a standard (whether it be Common Core, Next Generation, National Education Technology Standards, or other professional standards for teachers, counselors, administrators, etc). Using Google Doc you created earlier, share at least one idea for meeting that standard that uses a feature of Google DRIVE to implement your idea. Use the Google Docs Table of Contents Feature to organize the document so that you can continue to add to it throughout this course. Use the Research Tool to cite the standards.
