Theme

The theme of my artwork is the journey. The idea is that after a long journey comes the rewards; you have to work hard to reap the rewards.

I chose to use a ship that is 17nth or 18nth century style because I have always liked that era, I find it fascinating because it is the ‘pirating golden age.’ I find this idea important because it shows that you have to work for what you want, you can’t just have it. The work is what makes the reward a reward and makes it satisfying

Reference

Actually, I didn't really have a reference that I used, I found my inspiration in my head, and put it on paper, I tried to make my design original. The reason I knew what this looked like was because of my fascination with the subject. However here is an image, not my reference, but an image to show what this should look like.

Critique based on Elements of Art and Principle of Design

I used emphasis to emphasize my name on my portfolio

I used texture for the ocean.

I used values to emphasise parts of the drawing such as the sides of the letters and the planks.

Coloring Techniques

I used shading on the planks and the sides of the letters to make shadows

I used burnishing on the ocean and the letters to make them stand out.

I used layering on the ocean to create the greenish blue colour of the ocean

Conclusion

1. What was good in my portfolio? The shading and the color scheme worked well to bring out the image

2. How could I improve?

My ship was a bit sloppy because I tend to rush, I can try to slow down in the future.

3. What are the new things/feelings I discovered about myself through this project?

I discovered that when I make mistakes, I don’t have to restart and can fix them.

4. How have I tried my best effort to create a positive learning environment for everyone in this classroom?

I have tried to help others with locating materials and being kind.
