Policies to Earn an HSE Diploma

    • NYS residency
    • MCSAA
    • Not eligible if a HS diploma has already been earned

HSE Testing Policies

    • Testing is available in English and Spanish
    • Subject tests which are passed cannot be retaken
    • Each subtest can be scheduled no more than 3 times a year
    • 60-day scheduling hold after an unsuccessful subtest event

Regents/HSE Exam Pathway-Results

  • Candidates can expect 3 to 5 weeks for processing-may be up to 10 weeks
  • Submitters are contacted when applications are incomplete
  • A candidate’s GED ID must be included to effectively merge Regents credit with the GED testing record
  • If results are not received in 10 weeks, candidates and advocates are encouraged to contact the HSE office to confirm results
  • Outreach letters are mailed to candidates when PII on record cannot confirm a record merge

College Credit HSE Pathway

  • The College Credit HSE Pathway requires candidates to complete 24 college credits within an assigned credit distribution: https://www.acces.nysed.gov/hse/college-credit​
  • Submission cost for College Credit process was sunset in May 2024.​�An updated application form was published.
  • Complete applications are processed within 2-3 weeks of receipt
  • College staff can now submit through a secure digital submission platform

In 2025, over 1000 College Credit Pathway Applications were processed.  91% of the applications resulted in a HSE Diploma.

NEDP Pathway

    • Adult Ed Providers have a unique opportunity to help evaluate future clients
    • Referral programs can support clients
      • Provide a distance learning environment for active clients
      • Academic support, when needed

Need for Advocate Support

    • Can commit to regular engagement
    • Demonstrates dedication to educational goals
    • Does not have too many competing priorities
    • May have an aversion to testing

HSE Status Report

  • The HSE Status Verification page allows test takers and advocates to verify diploma status or check which subject tests are still needed.​
  • Requires candidate DOB and at least one other identifier.​
  • Results are displayed based on official HSE records.​
  • Scores and applications are generally completed 5 weeks after submission to the HSE Office.​
  • Some scores and applications may take up to 10 weeks to finalize.
