Let us find our common multiples

I have 10 , 20

I also have 10 & 20

6 of 16

He ! 10 & 20 are our common multiples.

10 is our lowest common multiple called LCM.

Class :- V

Subject :- Maths

Topic :- Be My Multiple, I’ll be Your Factor.

OBJECTIVE :-

(i) Understands the concept of multiples and factors.

(ii) Identifies the multiples and factors.

TEACHING AIDS :-

Multiplication Table, Geometry box, some objects like bangle, seeds, pebbles.

9 of 16

FACTORS :-

Numbers which are multiplied together to give a new number are called the factors of the new number so obtained.

MULTIPLE :-

The result of multiplication is called multiple of each factor.

Example :- 2 x 3 = 6

Here 2 and 3 are factors of 6

But 6 is the multiple of both 2 and 3.

PROPERTIES OF FACTORS :-

(1) Every number has at least two factors.

4 x 7 = 28

10 of 16

(2) 1 is a factor of every number.

5 x 1 = 5

(3) 1 is the smallest factor of every number.

12 = 12 x 1

& 12 = 3 x 4

(4) Every number is a factor of itself.

15 x 1 = 15

(5) A factor of a number is either less than or equal to the number itself.

72 = 8 x 9

= 72 x 1

= 18 x 4 etc.

PROPERTIES OF MULTIPLES :-

(1) Every number is a multiple of 1.

1 x 7 = 7.

(2) Every number is a multiple of itself.

8 x 1 = 8.

(3) Zero is a multiple of every number.

6 x 0 = 0.

(4) Every non-zero multiple of a whole number is either greater than or equal to the number.

Ist multiple of 9 = 1 x 9 = 9

2nd multiple of 9 = 2 x 9 = 18

MULTIPLES AND COMMON MULTIPLES :-

Find multiples of 3 and 5.

Ist multiple of 3 = 1 x 3 = 3

2nd multiple of 3 = 2 x 3 = 6

3rd multiple of 3 = 3 x 3 = 9

------------------------------------

------------------------------------

Ist multiple of 5 = 1 x 5 = 5

2nd multiple of 5 = 2 x 5 = 10

3rd multiple of 5 = 3 x 5 = 15

----------------------------------------

COMMON MULTIPLES :-

Find Common multiples of 3 and 5.

Multiples of 3 = 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30 ..........

Multiples of 5 = 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50.......

Common multiples of 3 and 5 = 15, 30, 45 ....................

3 6 5 10

(3) 9 12 15 20 25 (5)

18 21 30 35 40

24 27 45 50 55

FACTORS AND COMMON FACTORS :-

Find factors of 10 and 18.

10 = 1 x 10 18 = 1 x18

= 2 x 5 = 2 x 9

= 5 x 2 = 3 x 6

= 10 x 1 = 6 x 3

Thus factors of = 9 x 2

10 = 1, 2, 5, 10 = 18 x 1

Thus factors of

18 = 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18

COMMON FACTORS :-

Find common factors of 10 and 18.

Factors of 10 = 1 , 2 , 5, 10

Factors of 18 = 1 , 2 , 3, 6, 9, 18

Common factors of 10 and 18 = 1, 2
