Madonna and Child Enthroned with Saints

This painting was made around 1504 by Raphael. It was hung in an area of the church that was only for nuns. Raphael also knew how to plan what buildings looked like, which we can see in a lot of his paintings. The painting was church-inspired, where we can see Saint Peter, Catherine, Lucy, Saint Paul, Young John the Baptist and Young Jesus.

The Sistine Madonna

The Sistine Madonna was painted in 1512. The Church San Sisto in Piacenza asked Raphael to paint something for them. In the picture is Mary and Jesus. But it’s the two angels at the bottom of the painting that have made the painting famous. One looks up with his chin in his hand, the other looks off to the side with his head resting on crossed arms.
