Getting Started in 5th Grade Band

Hello! I hope everyone is ready for an exciting year of making music! 5th grade band is alway one of my favorite classes as we see the next generation take their first steps with their instruments! This sheet will provide some information to help you and your child get a great start in band this year! There will be a PARENT MEETING on Wednesday, September 16th at 7:00 PM in the Band room covering band and instrument rentals. Enter through door 10 near the stadium.

OBTAINING AN INSTRUMENT

​

Obtaining an instrument can seem challenging and cumbersome, but we will provide some great options for you to set your child up for success in band. Here are the recommended ways of obtaining an instrument:

​

  1. Renting from a reputable music store. Crestview uses Pellegrino’s Music from Canton, OH. CLICK HERE to access their instrument rental website.
  2. Finding a quality used instrument. Mr. Bable and Mr. Amerson will gladly help determine if an instrument is appropriate or not.
  3. Crestview has some school owned woodwind & brass instruments available for rental, but the availability is limited.

PERCUSSION INSTRUMENTS

Only ten students will be permitted to play percussion in the 5th grade band. Eligibility will be based on the instrument fitting evaluation and communicated to students and parents.

Due to the nature of the percussion instruments students use in 5th grade, the Crestview Local School District DOES NOT provide school owned percussion kits. All students playing percussion instruments are required to purchase their own percussion kit that includes a bell set and a drum pad. CLICK HERE to see an example percussion kit.
