We are in the process of updating the EZProxy configuration for Ebook Central. This update will require a change to your EZProxy configuration to prevent access disruptions for your users.

For information on how to update your EZProxy configuration, please follow the steps for your proxy method (SSO or Shared Secret) as described in this support article: https://support.proquest.com/s/article/Ebook-Central-Proxy-Configuration-Options

You must make this change by Tuesday, November 28, 2023, to prevent disruptions to your users.

Exclude CDI ebooks updates:

Instructions for removing duplicates of CDI ebook records. If you implement these 2 features, most of the CDI ebook records will be removed from search results. Ebook chapters will still appear.

  • The advantages: essentially one record, no more SF cases to open about metadata mismatches, less clutter.
  • Disadvantage: Sometimes, the CDI bib record is better than the Alma record.

Exclude eBooks from CDI Results

Do Not Retrieve Local Records from CDI feature (reduce CDI duplicates)

Fuzzy Title Matching

Control the Ability to Ignore Title Based Link Resolving

New feature added in August 2023 release to deactivate “fuzzy” searches in Alma for Primo. Fuzzy search is the default, if there is no match on identifier or title, a fuzzy match is enacted on a possible title match. Can be deactivated. Your choice.

Help page under "Control Ability to Ignore Title Based Link Resolving"

This documentation says that the goal is that if the parameter is set to "true", patrons will "no longer receive false negative search results based on title matches only". However, a conversation you can find on the ExLibris listserv (Subject: Ability to ignore title based link resolving) shows the testers little to no change in the linking behavior.

We believe Ex Libris thinks this helps with ebooks and videos appearing on same record. In general, it hasn’t helped. Christine Holmes has a SF ticket asking about this. This feature was used in response to other similar SF cases Christine had with Ex Libris.

Thanks to Christine Holmes and Jill Strykowski.

Reporting Support Cases

  • Best Practices for submitting a case
  • The CO Team (SDLS/SDLC) is here to help with drafting and sending support cases to get started
  • Reporting NZ ERM cases
    • Send CDI/Metadata related cases to Salesforce
      • Example 1: This record is labeled "video", but in fact this is a radio program, not a video.
      • Do we have radio or audio as a resource type? https://csu-eastbay.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/permalink/01CALS_UHL/on8gvj/cdi_proquest_miscellaneous_2724313671
        • Ex Libris Support changed the label on the CDI record
      • Example 2: Our record for "Self-Cultivation,Sanctification and Revolution:Understanding the Radicalization of May 4th Moralist" (https://csu-lb.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/permalink/01CALS_ULB/tk3i0c/cdi_proquest_journals_2835236246) is returning an "Item not found" error.
        • Ex Libris Support CDI Team: The new index is live and the problematic data mentioned here should be corrected. Please take a look at the new results for this query and let us know if you are still seeing issues.
      • Example 3: The Results list shows "full text available" but no full text link appears when you click into the record.
        • Ex Libris Support CDI Team: It appears that in this case there was a difference in the indexing of the metadata between the Discovery record and the target platform. Therefore, I have updated the metadata for this record which should resolve the issue. The corrected data will appear in your discovery system after the next Index update, which usually takes about a week. We will notify you when it is released so you can check the new data.

NZ ERM Form Cases: Use cases

  • Submit NZ KB cases using NZ ERM form
    • Changes needed for:
      • Portfolio coverage dates
        • Cover date is from 02/01/2009 but this article does not come up in EBSCO when searching the publication. Coverage in EBSCO starts with November 2009
      • Portfolio URLs
        • "Web site not found" error page
      • Add/Remove portfolios
        • The ebook "The Negro in the French West Indies" does not appear to be available any longer in our JSTOR Books EBA collection
        • Removed ebook from the collection
      • Set up shared collections
        • New subscription to an Opt-in
          • Request to be added
          • Have NZ license updated for ordering
  • CDI settings in NZ can be updated by library
    • If Ex Libris Support suggests making changes to CDI settings, can login as the CDI User, in the NZ, and make changes for library
  • More efficient to submit CDI/Metadata related cases directly to support so replies from Support aren’t sitting in my inbox
  • If your library discontinues a subscription
    • Submit the ERM form or email Jessica H.

Cases: Incorrect metadata/missing content

In some cases, the metadata is incorrect on the vendor’s side, such as EBSCO or ProQuest have incorrect year, volume, issue, start page or article title.

I recommend opening an ExL SalesForce case and reporting the incorrect metadata or missing article.

Ex Libris has been contacting vendors asking for incorrect metadata to be correct or ask about missing articles.

Helpful Troubleshooting from SUNY

  • If they do not contact the vendor, cases with ProQuest can be opened in SalesForce.
  • Open support cases with EBSCO Connect
    • EBSCO has requested libraries submit cases and if more help is needed, CO can help expedite the case
  • Email Gale Content Support
  • JSTOR form
  • Email Elsevier Support
  • Oxford University Press Support
  • SpringerNature Support
  • Email Annual Reviews
  • Bad DOI’s: Contact Ex Libris Support, submit case with CrossRef or DOI.org
  • Recommend asking ExL contacting the vendor via their vendor relations
    • They have been good about contacting vendors and cases are updated with ongoing communications between ExL and vendors

Subscription access issues

  • When your library is unable to access a subscribed database
    • Not related to Alma access
    • Example 1: Library loses access during negotiation time
    • Example 2: Lose access to a journal/ebook included in title list
    • Contact the vendor support or representative.
      • SDCL can help with contact information and subscription information
      • Recommend opening case with vendor and ask SDLC to expedite if vendor is slow resolving the issue
  • Goal is speed up services and support to libraries by cutting out the middle person(s).
  • Ask CO for help getting started with support contacts or to escalate cases:
    • Ann Roll
    • Kirstie Genzel
    • Christina Hennessey
    • Jessica Hartwigsen
