Timeline from March through today (slide 1 of 2)

March 11th - UM/MSU announce that classes are canceled starting on the 12th

March 12th - We announce we will close through April 6th starting on Monday, Governor closes all schools through April 5th around 11:30 that night (starting Monday)

March 13th - end of day, schools closed through April 5th. No events greater than 250 people

March 16th - gyms, bars, restaurants closed. No events over 50 people.

March 21st - Barbershops, salons, tattoo shops closed

March 23rd - stay-at-home order issued, schools closed through April 13th

April 2nd - schools closed the rest of the year

During this window, DCS worked to reconfigure our technology, address broadband accessibility issues, feed students (over 206,000 meals served as of yesterday), prepare our teachers for a longer period of remote learning, and begin crafting a plan for the remainder of the year.

April 3rd (Friday over Spring Break) - Learning Continuity Plan Template Released

April 5th (Sunday over Spring Break) - Remote learning guidance released in draft form

April 7th - DCS submits first draft plan in the county for review whenever rubric for scoring becomes available

April 7th - DCS technology device pickup dates/times/locations announced

April 8th - Statewide rubric for Learning Continuity Plans Released

April 8th - DCS plan approved, but we asked to hold off until Monday the 13th to complete community feedback, board feedback, and staff feedback.

April 9th - Stay-at-home order extended

April 10th - Tech hotline and system for wifi support announced

April 13th - DCS Board Reviews Plan, Plan approved by WISD

April 16th - Virtual Forum to review Continuity of Learning Plan

  • April 24th - Stay-at-home order extended with some restrictions lifted (i.e., golf, boating, landscapers, nurseries, etc)
  • April 30th - Closures of theaters, bars, casinos extended
  • May 1st - Revised state plan required
  • May 7th - Stay-at-home order extended until May 28th
  • May 11th - Manufacturing permitted to start up
  • May 12th or 13th - New Executive Order for Schools released with some changes
  • May 15th - Process to consider reopening schools announced
  • May 18th - partial reopening of Northern Michigan Announced
  • May 21st - More is reopened
  • Somewhere in here, the safer-at-home is extended most of the state
  • May 29th - MHSAA releases guidance
  • June 1st - Announcement made for retailers and restaurants to begin opening starting the 4th and the 8th
  • June 2nd - New MHSAA guidance released
  • June 3rd - more lifted, 100 person outdoor events soon allowed
  • June 5th - announced that salons, barber shops will open starting June 15th statewide, 250 people outdoor events soon allowed
  • June 9th - Today

  • When we announced closure, there were 12 COVID-19 cases in Michigan

  • As of yesterday, 64,000 Michigan COVID-19 Cases

  • Nearly 6,000 Deaths from COVID-19 in Michigan

    • Space/Facility rentals after June 15th - Outdoors only!

    • Start on June 15th - Outdoors only!
    • Strength & Conditioning Schedule will go out Wednesday
    • Protocols for practices & workouts shared with Coaches today
    • Camps will be scheduled soon, when possible within safety guidelines (outdoors only)

Our Plans

  • Awaiting guidance from Governor’s Office and/or Michigan Department of Education in late June

  • DCS will build a detailed plan based on the guidance in late July and solicit community feedback.

  • The DCS finalized plan will be released in early August with a September 8th start date.
