Insights from the Spring 2012 Pilot

  • Institutional feedback has been positive

  • Some institutions from Spring 2012 pilot have expressed interest in a more extensive pilot for Summer/Fall 2012

  • Four of the five institutions opted into the IRB approved research study

The Proposal: eText Pilot Pack

  • Offer is being made to 50 institutions (must be a member of I2 or EDUCAUSE)
  • Internet2 handles all contracting matters with publishers and Courseload (Provider of eReader/annotation software).
  • Institutions pay an all inclusive flat fee to Internet2 for the the Pilot Pack. No fees to students
  • Institutions identify faculty who wish to opt into the pilot for Summer/Fall 2012.
  • Institutions may participate in faculty-led, IRB-approved research study and receive a timely summary and raw data at the end of the semester.

  • Tier 1
    • 20 sections/800 students
    • $20,000 flat fee

  • Tier 2
    • 40 sections/1600 students
    • $35,000 flat fee

Details – Publisher Content

  • McGraw Hill is first publisher to agree to participate in pilot

  • MH's full digital library is available (small number of titles may not be available)

  • MH CONNECT is available at an additional fee per student

Details - Software

  • Courseload is providing the eText reader/annotation software.

  • Courseload’s eReader software integrates with each institution’s Learning Management System (LMS) enabling single sign on

  • Faculty and students can read, annotate and print eTexts via any browser, tablet, or smartphone that supports HTML5 (almost all do).

  • Students have no textbook costs for that course section, and can optionally pay $25 (avg.) if they want a printed textbook in addition to electronic.
