Where is the revolution?

At one point, Iran was the center of a large empire, called Persia. And that’s why Iran is sometimes used interchangeably with the label Persia -- if you go out to have Persian food -- you might see the flag of Iran in the restaurant or on the menu.

In order to understand the Iranian Revolution of 1979, we need to go way back to ancient times.

We need to understand a couple characteristics of this empire, this Persian empire.

Around 500-600 BC (BCE) -- the Persian conquers respected the customs of those who were ruled. That means, if you were Jewish, for example, you could keep your religion. They ruled with central authority and local governors -- and that was pretty effective -- for ruling tne of the largest empires in History
They did this from a very Opulent city - Persepolis - a symbol of the empire, ceremonial and administrative center — our Washington DC. Paris, when France was the dominant power
