Game Day

We are going to be using modified coach pitching:

  • Coach pitch at first, after 3 swings or 10 pitches, a Tee is used to hit.
  • No Swinging outs at the beginning of the season. Introduced as a game later on.
  • Limited amount of players at bat per inning (each player getting one at bat).
  • All infield defensive positions are taught, except catcher, due to shared equipment safety.

Game Day

We are going to be using modified player pitching:

  • Each player gets on base. Runner cannot be thrown out. One base at a time. Players are to practice waiting for the batter to hit before running.
  • Celebrate great plays. The kids will respond with confidence.
  • Good sportsmanship is taught by a coach.
  • At the end of the game, each team will line up on base path closest to their dugout and then give high fives or fist pumps to the other team.

Baserunning

  • Infield hits are singles.

  • No leading, stealing, or advancing on over-throws

  • No head-first slides

  • Every batter is safe, even if thrown out.

General Rules

  • No batters “on deck” at any time. This is a safety rule, as kids this age are not always (or even often) paying attention to the live ball or where they’re swinging the bat.

  • Each team will have 5 players in the infield – P, 1B, 2B, 3B, and SS. It is important for players at this level to learn “real” baseball infield positions. Those not playing an infield position will be placed in the outfield. Players that played outfield the previous inning will be switched to infield the next.

  • Coaches will strive for three innings per game, but may be called early due to time.
