What does it mean?

Dyslexia Friendly Classroom: the main principles

• Positive and tolerant atmosphere;
• Easy access to the curriculum;
• Taking into account the different learning styles of the students;
• Using different organisational forms of work;
• Teaching organisational skills;
• Positive feedback.

Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark

• The BDA’s Quality Mark aims to provide a framework of support and understanding for organisations within which the dyslexic individual can build on existing skills and talents as well as develop new skills.
• Such a framework ensures that all within the organisation have a good knowledge of the needs of the dyslexic individual and that resources are available to meet such needs.

Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark

The Quality Mark is made up of standards that cover 5 areas:

• Effectiveness of Management Structure.
• Identification of Dyslexia/SpLD.
• Effectiveness of Resources (Physical Environment, Teaching and Learning).
• Continuing Professional Development.
• Partnership with Learners, Parents/Carers and External Agencies.

Under each of the above headings are criteria that must be achieved in order to demonstrate that the standard for a Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark has been met.
