Engaging with Waymo

  • The I-10 Broadway Curve Project impacted roadways within Waymo’s Phoenix and Tempe Service areas.

  • Established monthly coordination calls to discuss upcoming closures/shifts and to identify segments of the project as they were opened to their final configuration.

  • Waymo outreach and technical staff wanted to understand timeline for improvements to come online – vehicles needed to be re-trained.

Monitoring of Adaptive Operations

  • The City of Tempe implemented an Adaptive Corridor on Baseline Road to accommodate traffic during construction
  • Early in the project communication in the Baseline Corridor was not reliable.
  • Iteris staff established congestion alerts for the Baseline Corridor to identify if the travel time through the corridor moderately, or significantly.
