Overview:

Your laptop is now the wifi router to which your phone and the wyze camera are connected. You are running an algorithm on your laptop(wifi router) that captures and analyzes the packets that go through your laptop i.e. packets that are received and sent by your router. The analyzed data from your laptop is sent to the android app that visualizes that data in a user friendly way. To send the data from the laptop to the android app you are using a local flask server which is set up on your laptop.

What data analysis are we doing with the data packets?

We are looking at the MAC addresses of the sender and receiver to see if there are any suspicious parties. We do this by doing a OUI lookup of these MAC addresses that tells us what company the MAC addresses’ server belongs to.
We are measuring the number of packets transmitted per 5 seconds. We use the graph of that to determine if there are any suspicious activities such as a lot of camera movement, zooming in and voice transmission in a short time or at an unusual hour.
Listing devices that are connected to the wifi router. We do this by finding the IP addresses that are similar to that of the local router and then looking up the OUI of the MAC addresses of these devices. This tells us what company the device belongs to but not what the device is. Eg. it will tell us Apple, Wyze but not ipad, baby monitor
