“So it’s a challenge! But if you don’t like a challenge you shouldn’t be looking at this role, and if you want an easy life you shouldn’t join a Trust.

But if you want some of the most rewarding work you’ll ever find, see the immediate impact on patients, and staff who have been heroic through Covid come and join us.”

What we’re doing in EPR

What we’re doing in EPR

  • Group 2 ‘extending’ Trust with a 10 year programme
  • Building a large delivery team in a short time, 80% agency procured
  • Managing the “transformation to BAU” cycle – balancing people in role 30+ years against ‘day raters’
  • Running stand ups, highlight meetings and hypercares to address risks, issues and blockers, then reporting progress at the end of the week simulating sprints.
  • Aligning around user stories which are focused on the patient (and colleagues) at all times
  • Commissioning work packages around these phases, or milestones, and as SWAT teams, using SFIA skills to ensure we have all skills covered
  • Managing procurement ‘heck’, DOS6, managing performance

The challenges

The challenges

  • You can use AFC to write DDaT profiles, but AFC pay rates do not compare (but remember Recruitment & Retention premium)
  • If you go to market it’s £650 a day for “average resource”…
  • You then have a whole bunch of supplier management issues
  • Equity across existing staff and DDaT roles is interesting – how do you blend?
  • DDaT roles work best as blended teams – in my NHSD time that was £500k per year for one team – that’s 12 nurses (ICS shared services a long way off)
  • Awareness at Board level of DDaT, spend control & service assessments is low
  • Some suppliers are very DDaT aware and have much Gov experience, but many not
  • The market works often with Associates and ‘outside IR35 associates’ which is anathema to Trusts
  • Working in Acutes is hard, is everyone up for the challenge?
