NIH Requirements

Beginning on January 25, 2026, applicants/recipients will be required to use SciENcv to prepare Common forms (i.e., Biographical Sketch and Current and Pending (Other) Support) and the Biographical Sketch Supplement to produce digitally certified PDF(s) for use in application submission.

What is SciENcv?

SciENcv is an NCBI tool that helps researchers create and format grant and funding forms according to NIH formatting requirements.

  • Auto-populate data (My Bibliography, eRA Commons, NCF & ORCID)
  • Duplicate documents
  • Generate verified PDF and MS Word files

SciENcv Templates

As of January 26, 2026, there are new NIH templates for Biographical Sketches and new NSF templates for NSF Biographical Sketches and NSF Other Support forms.

How do I access SciENcv?

SciENcv is available for the MyNCBI account. It can be accessed directly or by way of PubMed.

Log into MyNCBI

Faculty/Researchers/PI

  • Select the eRA Commons login option. This login route will link your eRA Commons account to your MyNCBI account.

Research Support

  • Select from other third-party options
  • Search for the select University of California Irvine for Single-Sign On
  • DUO Authentication is required

Link External Accounts

eRA Commons, NSF, and ORCID accounts can be linked to the NCBI account. These links can be used to populate SciENcv profiles with the information stored in those accounts.

  • Click on the username button and select Account settings.
  • Go to the Liked Accounts section and click on the Add account lin.
  • Search for the account name and click on its link to connect it to your MyNCBI account.

Add a Delegate

Researchers can grant others (i.e., delegates) access to their SciENcv to help manage documents.

  • Click on the username button and select Account settings.
  • Go to the Delegates section of the page and click on the Add delegate link.
  • Enter the delegate’s email address and click on Save button.

Delegate: Confirm Invitation

Delegates must sign into their NCBI account before replying to the confirmation e-mail.

  • Go to the confirmation email and click on the “Confirm Connection” button.
  • Once confirmed, a link to the CV for which you are a delegate will appear in your NCBI Dashboard:SciENcv portlet (i.e., box).

Edit Your SciENcv Profile

Manual Entry

Edit your profile to include an updated name, title, and organization.

Auto-Populate

If you linked your ORCID or NSF account to your MyNCBI account, you will have the option to populate your SciENcv profile with information stored in that account.

  1. Click the NEW DOCUMENT button
  2. Enter a Document title
  3. Select a Document type > NIH Biosketch
  4. If you have external accounts linked to MyNCBI, choose an external source
  5. If you do not have external accounts linked to MyNCBI, choose Start with a blank document

Edit Document Sections

  • Name
  • Education & Training
  • Personal Statement
  • Up to four citations can be added
  • Positions, Scientific Appointments, and Honors

C. Contribution to Science

  • Up to five contributions can be listed. Up to four citations can be added to each contribution.

Adding Products

Citations can be added from My Bibliography, which is automatically integrated with SciENcv.

Citations can be added from ORCID, if it is linked to your MyNCBI account.

  1. Select the source from which you want to add citations
  2. Mark the citations to include and click on [Save citations]

Alternatively, click on Add citations to search and add citations directly from PubMed. They will be added to My Bibliography and can then be marked for adding to the section.

  • You can add up to five contribution tabs. Click on edit to add a description for each contribution section.
  • Select up to five citations that are relevant ot the contribution.

NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement

This NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement provides instructions for submission by each individual identified as a senior/key person on a Federally funded research project submitting a Biographical Sketch Common Form.

NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement - Honors

List any relevant academic and professional achievements and honors. In particular:

  • Students, postdoctorates, and junior faculty should include scholarships, traineeships, fellowships, and development awards, as applicable.
  • Clinicians should include information on any clinical licensures and specialty board certifications that they have achieved.

The Honors Section is limited to no more than 15 entries.
