Techniques

  • Labels: Cartoonists often identify or name certain things in their cartoons so that it is apparent what things represent.
  • Symbolism: Cartoonists may use simple objects to represent larger ideas or concepts.
  • Analogy: Cartoonists may compare a simple image or concept to a more complex situation, in order to help the viewer understand the situation in a different way.
  • Irony: A cartoonist may express an opinion on a topic by highlighting the difference between the way things are and the way things should be, or are expected to be.

SYMBOLISM: Apple-the company Apple, Pigs symbolize greed.

ANALOGY: Comparing the Apple’s use of China’s Lax Child labor laws to a cooked pig’s head.

IRONY: Using the traditional Apple in the cooked pig’s mouth to represent the company Apple being greedy.

Sociopolitical art is used to help people in understand political and social issues, by creating art that expresses these concerns Political artists are also known to use their work as a form of propaganda or as a tool for protesting.
