Farmers :

1. Extended cultivation cycles. Can be shorter

2. Poor productivity and cash flow

3. Poor awareness of technology selection

4. Don’t understand pricing for moist/dried grains

Traders/Warehousing/Stockists :

1. Unaware of the right drying technology. Tend to dispose moist material quickly without right price realization.

2. Limited operating radius. Poor transportation methods.

3. Dependency on seasonal changes due to higher moisture in the Indian Subcontinent.

FPO/Mandis/APMC’s :

1. Tend to store grains with unproven technologies.

2. Mix up the input feed coming at various Moisture %

Private Sector :

1. Sites lack proper technology of Drying and Storage

2. Deal with a lot of rejections because of inconsistent moisture levels at the input

3. Heavy uncertainty during the monsoons

4. Unable to store higher moisture maize for longer terms

What is the goal ?

What do we need to achieve this goal ?

Goal :

Increase shelf life of Maize
Enabling more Farmers to sow Maize. Hence maturing the entire ecosystem.

Actionable Steps and Way Forward :

From Government :

1. Implementing at selected few Mandis across states that expect high inflow of Maize. Then further extend it to all Mandis.

2. Provide capital subsidy for dryers to Mandis/Traders/Stockist.

3. Encourage and educate farmers as it will result in boosting their income in their existing cultivation capacity

From Private Companies :

Participate in adoption of such proven technologies.
Encourage traders/stockists to install dryers to get consistent moisture levels of grains.

Expected Results

Tangible Results :

Improved crop cycles and higher margins for Farmers. Leading to encourage farmers grow more maize.

Ability to dry and store at Farms will remove the dependency of Farmers to sell instantly to Mandis / Private Companies

Lower Aflatoxin levels in the maize leads to better value of by products such as DDGS. Also avoiding a major health concern for the cattle feed/poultry industry.

No dependency on input parameters and lesser material rejections for processing companies.

Improving purchasing capability of companies to buy and store for the entire season.

Boost exports of Maize.
