Follow the points below to ensure you have included everything:
Wassily Kandinsky
A Russian painter and art theorist. Kandinsky is generally credited as the pioneer of abstract art. Born in Moscow, Kandinsky spent his childhood in Odessa (today Ukraine). Kandinsky's creation of abstract work followed a long period of development and maturation of intense thought based on his artistic experiences.
Edvard Munch
A Norwegian painter, his best known work, The Scream, has become one of the most iconic images of world art.
In 1879, Munch enrolled in a technical college to study engineering, where he excelled in physics, chemistry and math. He learned scaled and perspective drawing, but frequent illnesses interrupted his studies.
Franz Marc
A German painter and printmaker, one of the key figures of German Expressionism.
Most of his mature work portrays animals, usually in natural settings. His work is characterized by bright primary color, an almost cubist portrayal of animals, stark simplicity and a profound sense of emotion. Even in his own time, his work attracted notice in influential circles. Marc gave an emotional meaning or purpose to the colors he used in his work: blue was used to portray masculinity and spirituality, yellow represented feminine joy, and red encased the sound of violence.
Käthe Kollwitz
A German artist who worked with painting, printmaking (including etching, lithography and woodcuts) and sculpture. Her most famous art cycles, including The Weavers and The Peasant War, depict the effects of poverty, hunger and war on the working class. Despite the realism of her early works, her art is now more closely associated with Expressionism.Kollwitz was the first woman to not only be elected to the Prussian Academy of Arts but to also receive honorary professor status.
