Definitions of communication

The creation of understanding in someone else’s mind in order to promote mutually beneficial action.

A sharing of information or ideas between or among individuals leading to a mutually beneficial outcome.

The meaning of your communication is the response that you get.

“The creation of understanding in someone else’s mind” WE have to take full responsibility to ensure this happens. If the don’t understand, then that is our fault and we must re-communicate in a way that they do understand

“Mutually beneficial action” Effective communication is always about win-win. There should be something of value for all involved. If we communicate for self gain, with no regard for the other person, then we enter the realms of manipulation which can totally destroy TRUST. TRUST is essential in any relationship and allows open and honest communication.We should always be striving to build trust in all our relationships.

“The meaning of your communication is the response that you get”

This is a great sanity check. If you don’t get the response that you expected, then in all probability, your communication created the wrong understanding. If this happens, check their understanding and then re-communicate your message (DIFFERENTLY !).
